  • herman miller Goetz Sofa

    herman miller Goetz Sofa
Molded plywood carries an immediate association with classic Herman Miller designs, and Mark Goetz skillfully and creatively incorporates this material in his sofa design. While traditional construction consists of a wooden frame with padding and upholstery applied over it, the Goetz sofa turns tradition inside out, wrapping his sofa in a striking molded wood veneer shell to create both a structural frame and a dramatic profile. Crisp, clean lines and ergonomic support-an instant Herman Miller classic. Understanding that people don't just perch on the edge of sofa seat cushions, designer Mark Goetz made sure that his sofa would be comfortable, no matter what position you were in. Thick cushions and a balanced seat depth-shallow enough to give correct support while sitting upright; deep enough to provide enough room for napping-provide both correct ergonomic support and comfort. To achieve the right look for the wood veneer shell, an intricate miter is incorporated at every corner, allowing the molded veneer to wrap completely around the sides and back. There is only one seam on the entire shell. The shell is available in several beautiful wood veneers-ash, ebonized ash, walnut, and cherry. The upholstery-which meets the veneer at a subtle, understated edge-can be leather or one of many fabric choices. The matte finish to the metal legs adds contemporary appeal. Dimensions: 84"w | 31"d | 32"h | seat 17.5"h. Proudly made in the USA.

    Herman Miller Nelson&Trade; Marshmallow Sofa
Design by George Nelson and Irving Harper, 1956.By Herman Miller. The playful Marshmallow Sofa is a landmark of modern design that's still turning heads and making people smile. The sofa originated from the discs that are its hallmark. Designers George Nelson and Irving Harper were approached by an inventor who had created an injection plastic disc in 1956. He insisted the disc could be produced inexpensively and would be durable. So the designers took a look and arranged 18 of them on a steel frame. The inventor's cushions turned out to be impractical, but Nelson and Harper were intrigued by the design they had created so casually, and Herman Miller decided to manufacture the sofa. By joining separate elements and making them appear to float on air, Nelson and Harper achieved this sofa's unique appearance and eye-catching appeal, which led the way into the pop art style of the 1960s. The Marshmallow Sofa was reintroduced by Herman Miller in 1999 after a 34-year hiatus. Cushions can be detached for easy cleaning and interchanged to equalize wear or create a new look. Select upholstery type and color.

    Herman Miller Eames&Reg; Sofa Compact
Design by Charles & Ray Eames, 1954.Made in the U.S.A. by Herman Miller. The light-scaled Eames Sofa Compact gives all the comfort usually associated with long, low, heavy sofas. It fits well where bulkier, traditional sofas don't — such as an executive suite or lounge as well as a home's alcove, vestibule, study, or nook. The Sofa Compact's striking profile and crisp, light scale evolved from a built-in sofa that Charles and Ray Eames designed for the living room of their Pacific Palisades home. Knowing this makes the name "compact" seem less curious for a sofa that's over 6 feet long and provides such comfortable support from shoulders to knees. The sofa has been in continuous production by Herman Miller since 1954. The Eames Sofa Compact features a high, angled back made of two horizontal foam pads with reinforcing cord welting detail. Urethane foam seat cushions are supported by fabric-reinforced rubber webbing on a steel and wire-spring armature. The ultra soft 2" thick molded urethane foam cushions can be upholstered in a variety of fabrics. The steel frame is black enamel, and the tubular steel legs are chrome plated. Stainless steel glides have rubber bases.
