As well as her husband Alvar, Aino Aalto also renounced unnecessary details and concentrated on soft, clear forms. The Side Table 606 belongs to the collection of black furniture pieces as well as the Chair 23, which was presented by both Aaltos in 1933 in London. The Side Table 606 suits in the most different surroundings because of the simple colour, form and the stacking capacity – in private as well as public rooms. The 606 was initially used as stool in the Alvar Aalto designed clinic in Paimio – its simple, clear shape, makes the Side Table 606 multifunctional and multi-usable. Artek manufactures the Side Table 606 with a frame out of matt lacquered steel tube and a board of birch veneer.

    Artek - Kiki Couch Table
The timeless, elegant forms of the Kiki Couch Table by Artek emerged out of the year 1960, when Ilmari Tapiovaara designed it. The Kiki collection was such a huge success that the following development of furniture design was sustainably influenced by it. The continuously quality tested Couch Table, produced in Finland, consists of a laminate board and a steel frame. If one looks a bit closer to it, one will find out that the steel tube is oval, and not round as most of the steel tubes are. This subliminally offers a completely different effect to it. Also the rest of the manufacturing is orientated by the design: this is how the welds are worked flawlessly and the high quality lacquer equips the astonishingly weightless, but still very stable frame with its elegant appearance. The apparently very weightless Kiki Couch Table can be combined with many styles and also used in public as well as private rooms. The Kiki collection won the golden medial on the Milan Triennial in its emerging year 1960 and it counts to the most used pieces of furniture in public areas in Finland. The Kiki Couch Table is available in different editions. Moreover the Kiki collection includes a couch table (140 x 60 cm) and a dining table (140 x 60 cm).

Alvar Aalto was a highly talented architect and an eager spokesman for the international modernist movement. Aalto's designs were innovative and radical and became known for his experimental approach to bending wood, which greatly influenced American designers Charles & Ray Eames and Finnish-born Eero Saarinen. His style became known as humanist modernism. Alvar Aalto's dialogue with nature, architecture, design and the human being has become a living legacy.
