Nicole and Harry Hansen Cutting Edge Metal Bowl
The artists transformed this antique saw blade by first hot forging it into a bowl. Then they hand raised the sterling silver chalice. Starting with and flat disk of silver and hammering it over steel stakes to form it into shape, a very long and meditative process. Then all the pieces are attached using sterling rivets. The steel is sealed with a traditional hot wax treatment and can be easily maintained by occasionally rubbing a thin layer of paste wax on the surface then gently heating it with a hair drier then buffing off the excess.
