Georg Jensen - Henning Koppel Pitcher
The duck is slim now: Henning Koppel designed a serving pitcher (with the number 1,044) in the year 1952 for the legendary Danish silver smithy Georg Jensen that reminded of a fat duck in its form. Consequently it became popular under the name “the pregnant duck” and was considered an absolute design classic. Koppel was obviously influenced by himself when he shaped the “Pitcher” in 1965 – also if it is slimmer now, what makes it appear even nobler than its idol. The design breathes pure pride. The Georg Jensen Company revives the chic, initially silver designed piece now in stainless steel, together with other works from the “master of form”. And the pitcher does spectacularly underline this series, which is why the Henning Koppel objects advanced to become the embodiment of Scandinavian post-war design as New Look famous style with their mirror-flat polished surfaces and their asymmetrical lines. Henning Koppel died in 1981 – although his works are still highly up-to-date today.

    Officina Alessi - Trayscape
Trayscape is a tray for the kitchen and the living room. It was designed by the Chinese design studio Urbanus for the Italian manufacturer Alessi and belongs to the project “(Un)Forbidden City”. The name of the project reveals it all: Alessi goes China! And the truth is, Alessi presents a utile item with Asian design philosophy with the Trayscape tray. Trayscape looks like a table sculpture, empty, expecting something that is to come. A dark stone, modelled like a sea, which is surrounded by soft mountains, like a traditional Chinese garden. Turned inside out, to be used as tray, the reliefs of the landscape become the surfaces on the table – and the slightly arched, flat surface, which served as base before, becomes the place for tasty meals. Both opposite souls of “Trayscape” – the contemplative expectation of an empty object and the functionality of the tray – are only understandable separately; they exclude each other. Liu Xiaodu, Meng Yan, Wang Hui of the design studio Urbanis designed a tray, which connects Asian philosophy with everyday objects with their Trayscape they designed for the Officina Alessi collection. The tray is made out of melamine resin.

There’s something homey about having oil and vinegar dispensers on the kitchen or dining room table at all times. And then there’s something messy about actually using them at the table. Most dispensers don’t cut off the flow of the oil completely after pouring, causing the oil to spill when the dispenser is returned upright - and any table, especially a wooden one, takes a beating. The BISTRO Oil and Vinegar Dispensers come with a pointy plastic beak which cuts the flow of oil and vinegar very precisely – hence, no messy tables. A little silicone ball in the lid closes the dispenser when it’s standing upright, and then moves up to open the lid when the bottle is tilted, allowing for easy pouring. The dispensers are made from plastic, silicone and borosilicate glass. They are dishwasher safe.

The bribing austerity of Naoto Fukasawa is again expressed in the assortment of Alessi – with the Cha, which is a kettle and a teapot at the same time. The lid of the Alessi Cha is easily but firmly introduced in the corpus of the kettle / teapot, in order to remain closed while it is used. The flexible handle of Cha is fixed at the corpus in a way that it snaps when the object is levered vertically, so that it is easier to pour the content. The handle of Cha is close to the corpus, which means that the multifunctional teapot is space saving when it isn’t used. The big integrated filter transforms “Cha” – the name is Japanese for “tea” – into a refined object to serve drinks. Naoto Fukasawa: Expressive purism The welded pourer has another filter, which keeps tea leaves from falling out, when they came out of the tea filter from inside of the pot. This structural details makes it possible to use the pot without filters, with the tea leaves directly in the corpus. The apparently simple shape hides how the designer concentrated on the details of his project, which is typical for the expressive purist Naoto Fukasawa: Elegant, simple and still very clever up to the details. Cha is made of 18/10 stainless steel with a lid knop of thermoplastic resin to protect the hands from heat. The modern teapot has a capacity of 900 ml. The base of the Cha kettle / teapot made of magnet steel is suitable for warmth sources of all kinds, including the one of induction stoves.

Stripes that suit everything. This is what the designer Annika Rimala thought of, when she developed the world famous Tasaraita pattern. The straight-lined pattern is indispensable in fashion, design and many other branches today, which is proven by the powerful expression of the Tasaraita cups with handle from Marimekko. Tasaraita was originally designed by Annika Rimala for fashion purposes. It was the first time that graphically simple and still strong stripes entered clothes. And much more: Tasaraita was the first unisex collection. The first clothes made for both: Women and men. Rimala wanted to express this highly modern philosophy in designs with differently coloured stripes of the same size: Different and with an own character, but absolutely equitable. And unfolding their whole attractiveness when they are combines. Simple. Timeless. Striped. The Marimekko Tasaraita cup brings this philosophy to the kitchen and the dining table. A big coffee, but also tea or every other drink suit in the 250ml cup. The Finnish manufacturer Marimekko produces the design coffee cups with handles out of stoneware. Menu Design Menu A/S - Water jug 1 liter
The designer Jakob Wagner started out with the classic bottle archetype, which in the new interpretation shows a smooth, square shape and a stainless steel with silicon colar. The colar protects the glas and holds back drops before they can drip down outside of the bottle - it also hides a disrete lid, that tilts automatically when pouring. The lid keeps out insects and pollen when used outside - and at the same time it ensures that everything your can fill into a bottle, like ice cubes, lemon, mint leaves or strawberries, stays inside. "I like it when my work has a natural balance", says Jakob Wagner. "Therefor the upper part of the bottle is a good example. It protects the glas, yet opens so you can see the content. There is a contrast between the open and the closed bottle - and therefor a balance".
