Order of the Eastern Star is the female group associated with the male Freemason / Masonic Fraternity group. Each symbol on the star denotes a heroine of the Bible. The center of the star is enameled in white with the letters: T A L F A. Unique & symbolic piece of fine vintage jewelry! Sale was originally $250. ERA Circa 1940s to 1950s, Mid-century. METAL / MATERIAL 10k white gold, 5 synthetic gemstones (created corundum & spinels which contain essentially the same chemical composition & properties as their natural counterparts, but are created by man), enamel. HALLMARKS / HISTORY Difficult to decipher, but appears to be 10k with two letters (tests as 10k solid gold) CONDITION Good vintage condition. Band is perfectly round, enameling is intact. Stones are all present, but the one created white spinel displays some light surface wear, which is hardly noticeable to the naked eye. Unique & meaningful piece of vintage jewelry! The coat of arms plaque containing a shield motif, helmet, maltese crosses, & a star. A very historically significant piece, due to the Hallmark OB for Ostby and Barton. HALLMARKS / HISTORY Marked 10k OB for Ostby and Barton with the maltese cross hallmark. Ostby (Co-owner of company) was a first class passenger on the Titanic & was among one of the 1,500 passengers who perished during the tragic iceberg collision. The company was established 1879 in Providence, Rhode Island. At it's time, it was considered one of the leading producers of fine jewelry. The company ceased production in the 1950s. Ostby & Barton jewelry is highly desired by collectors of fine antique jewelry for its beautiful workmanship & historical significance. CONDITION Excellent vintage condition. Stone is secure in setting & in excellent shape. Filigree is intact and free of breaks. Enameling is in nice shape, with hardly any wear.
