The water series was inspired by seascape photographs taken by artist Ayomi Yoshida. This limited-edition block print evokes the ocean at Inokashira, Tokyo. To achieve the layers of intermingled colors, Ayomi hand-carved a wood block for each hue. Then she printed a single color at a time, carefully layering and overlapping the prints until she captured the movement of the waves. Ayomi used umber, black and French grey water-based ink for this piece. The result is a limited-edition print that reflects Ayomi’s unique perspective and distinctive approach to block printing. Each of the 20 prints is signed and numbered by the artist.
