  • Ancient Greek Names
    More info
Ancient Greek Baby Names Ancient Greek baby names are the names that were used in Ancient Greece in the first millennium BC. At that time Greek civilization was ruling the Mediterranean, helping the wide spread of Greek names through that region, especially to Romans and Ancient Egyptians but also Africa and many parts of Asia. Later, the Greek culture and people felt in Judea during the time of Christ, that’s why there is a large amount of Greek Names in the New Testament (Bible). Ancient Greeks had no middle or last name; they were identified by their unique first name and the ethnicity or city they came from along with the patronymic name of their father. (Herodotus of Halicarnassus-‘Ηρόδοτος ο Αλικαρνασσεύς’, the historian who lived in Athens). Most Ancient Greek names are dithematic (of two elements) either simple derived from a noun or adjective along with a suffix e.g. Philippos-‘Φίλιππος‘, from ‘philli’ (friend) and ‘ippos’ (horse). See also Greek Mythological names and Greek Names for more information about mythological boy names and mythological girl names inspired from Ancient Greek Mythology, along with name meaning, pronunciation and other useful information. Digital print on fine art paper from the illustration of the book cover of Will Self's Ombrello (published in Italy by ISBN). This print is one of thirty and is progressively numbered. This print belongs to the project Never Judge A Book By Its Cover - a collective exhibition about 13 artists, exploring the universe of illustration and publishing with a special focus on book covers (Milan, Galleria Effearte, 22 November 2013 - 31 January 2014). A cover is something essential to a book. It is its dress and tells us all about it. We often choose a book by its cover, or on the contrary choose not to buy it if its cover isn't appealing. In the last decade the world of book covers has pushed its boundaries to unprecedented extents thanks to the contribution of visionary art directors, brave editors and formidable artists who chose to put their art the service of the publishing industry. Never Judge A Book By Its Cover provided an overview of the most relevant Italian illustrators who lend their artistic talents to publishing, thus leaving a permanent mark on it. These artists come from different paths and use different techniques. Some are internationally known, others have a name in a given foreign country - none of them is yet established in Italy, though.

  • 100 Years of Fashion Illustration (PB)
    momastore.org
By Cally Blackman. A visual feast of 400 dazzling images, this is a comprehensive survey of the genre over the last century. The book also offers an overview of the development of fashion, as seen through the eyes of the greatest illustrators of the day. Early in the century fashion illustration reflected new, liberating currents in art and culture, such as the exoticism of the Ballets Russes, while the postwar period saw inspiration from the great Parisian couturiers. After the dominance of the celebrity fashion photographer in the '60s, a new generation of illustrators emerged, embracing the medium of the computer, while many returned to more traditional techniques.
