We’ve always loved the sculptural curves and natural beauty of classic stick wicker styles from the early 20th century. We stayed true to the originals, wrapping sustainable rattan poles with numerous sticks of slender rattan to create these wonderfully angular frames. Seats and surfaces are meticulously handwoven for days to create beautiful hidden patterns, a design tradition that brings artistry to every piece. Our only update? More generous proportions and luxurious cushions for modern day comfort.

  • Mater Shell Lounge Chair - Brown Saddle Leather, Soaped Oak
    shophorne.com
The Shell Chair is developed out of Michael Dreebens ongoing interest in traditional craft practices in North India - in this case saddle making. Exquisitely made saddles have been produced in India for centuries, and although some horse culture persists, it's waning as India becomes more technologically developed. The Shell Chairs attempt to incentivize this skilled trade by providing these artisans with a new market for their craft, and hopefully encouraging them to pass it on to younger generations. The shape of the chair is an homage to Scandinavian design of the mid-twentieth century and embraces some of its core values: it's clean of line and is intended to emphasize the leather forming and stitching, it's deeply comfortable, and it's durable – like the saddles it's derived from, it's crafted from thick, top-grain leather, and with reasonable care, will last for decades. Frame: Soaped Oak. Leather: Premium brown saddle leather
  • Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk Reid One-Arm Chair in Leather, Right
    dwr.com
Not just for sitting, the Reid Collection (2007) invites you to watch movies, take a nap or surf on a laptop. Maximizing the enjoyment of downtime is something Jeffrey Bernett is passionate about since he spends a fair bit of his free time doing extreme sports, and he held nothing back when creating Reid with design partner Nicholas Dodziuk. Unlike sofas where you sit “on top” of the cushions, Reid is more of a “relaxed sit” thanks to down- and feather-wrapped foam. The seat depths suit various lounging positions, and the wide armrests offer support from elbow to wrist. Discreet legs further the streamlined appearance. Made in U.S.A. Mix and match Reid modular pieces to create the configuration of your dreams.

  • Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk Raleigh Armchair in Leather
    dwr.com
Raleigh (2009) is a comfortable collection that draws from midcentury Danish design. It features an exposed solid wood frame that wraps around the back (be sure to click on additional views above to see it) to support the seating area while lending visual lightness and satisfying tension to the whole. Unlike other exposed-frame collections that force overly upright sitting positions, Raleigh is designed with a carefully canted seatback for a more natural way of situating yourself as you relax and unwind. We chose to work with Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk on this project because of the importance they place on people – how they move, interact, live and, most of all, sit. The Raleigh Collection received Interior Design magazine’s top honor for 2010 in the residential lounge category. Made in U.S.A.
  • Arne Jacobsen Series 7 Chair in Natural Veneer
    dwr.com
The Series 7 Chair debuted in 1955 at the H55 exhibition in Sweden, and the appeal of what remains one of the most copied chairs of the modern era is its shape. Arne Jacobsen, who was instilled with a love of, shaped the core of Danish design identity when he accommodated three different bends in one piece of plywood, simply by narrowing the chair back. Once painstakingly made by hand, the Series 7 is now produced using automation methods borrowed from the German car industry and monitored by a team that ensures the authentic Series 7 is perfect every time. Suitable for contract use. Stacks six high. This is the authentic Series 7 Collection by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Denmark. Choose from nine different natural wood veneers. • Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen Organic Highback Chair
    dwr.com
Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen met at Cranbrook Academy in 1936. Saarinen had just returned home from abroad and was teaching at the Academy, while Eames had accepted a fellowship at the prestigious school. During their time at Cranbrook, they collaborated on many projects, with their efforts culminating in a range of furniture that won first prize at the "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" exhibition held by the MoMA in 1941. Eames and Saarinen designed several versions of the sculptural Organic Highback Chair (1940) for the competition. However, due to manufacturing constraints, the chair never went into serial production. Exhibition curator Eliot F. Noyes wrote of Saarinen and Eames: "Their designs proposed for the first time the use of molded plywood forms for chairs to fit the human body. The jury, in awarding the prizes, decided that these designs were possible to construct, although nobody, including the technical experts present, had any very exact idea of just how it might be done." While molded plastic chairs would hit the market only a few years later, it wasn't until 2006 that Vitra and the Vitra Design Museum first produced the Organic Chair. Made in Germany. With a slightly reclined seating position, the Organic Chair is ideal for reading. The elongated backrest provides neck support.
