Harry and I, being the busy people we are, did everything for Christmas last minute. We got up early this morning to go shopping for presents. Luckily, I did most of that a couple weeks earlier, but there were still a few people to shop for yet. Of course, Harry insisted on riding in the cart making me push him all over the store. It was really cute though, to every person we saw he would say “Merry Christmas!” As we walked out of the store, we realized a light snow had begun to fall.
“Merry Christmas, babe,” he said kissing the top of my head and pulling me into a hug. When we arrived home, I took a minute to look at the beautifully decorated house. The stockings were hung on the mantle and the tree looked breathtaking.
“Babe, I hate to interrupt your staring, but we have a lot of work to do.”
“Yeah, sorry! How about I wrap these last presents and you put your bakery skills to good work and decorate those cupcakes we baked last night?”
After about thirty minutes, I had the presents wrapped and under the tree ready to be delivered to their waiting owners. My feet padded on the wooden floor as I made my way towards the kitchen. I saw Harry with his back turned away from me wearing an apron decorating the cupcakes. He was softly singing along with the Christmas music on the radio. I quietly sneaked into the kitchen and snaked my arms around his waist.
“Harry, they look beautiful!” I said admiring his craftsmanship.
“Oh, thank you, but there is one thing more beautiful than them,” he said twisting around in my arms to face me.
“Oh I know! The icicles outside the window are beautiful too!” I said teasing him.
“I was trying to be cute!” he said groaning.
“More like cheesy, but thank you.”
“Now go and get ready we have to be at my mum’s in a couple hours.”
I looked at the clock realizing that he was right. I gave him a quick kiss and went upstairs to get ready. I quickly curled my hair and put in a cute headband. I walked into the adjoining bedroom and took the red and white dress out of the closet and set it on the bed. I touched the soft white lace on the top and sighed. Harry had helped me pick it out. I slipped into it and put on my red heels. I walked down the hall to the stairs and started to make my way down. My heels clicked on the hardwood floor. I noticed that all the lights were turned off.
“Harry?” I called when I reached the bottom. I walked into the kitchen to see if he was in there finishing up the cupcakes. No. In the office. No. I wandered around to the living room to see if he was in there. He was. Standing in front of the Christmas tree, the lights outlining his chocolate mop and his elf jumper. I walked into the room; my heels still clicking on the floor. He turned and smiled. I walked closer.
“Harry, what are you doing in here?”
My breathing hinged as he got down on one knee and recited words to me.
“When I first saw you my soul kind of stopped and went, ‘Oh, there you are. I’ve been looking for you.’ After our dates, I realized that I was falling in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”
I giggled, realizing that he was quoting John Green. I stopped though, so he could continue.
“Between the laughing for no reason, the stupid arguments, the long talks while lying in bed, and making fun of each other. I have fallen in love with you. So…”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box.
“Since you have stolen my heart,” he opened the box to reveal a large diamond ring. “Will you also steal my last name?”
I stood in shock for a couple moments. The tears were running down my cheeks.
“Yes!” I said.
He enveloped me into his arms and kissed me. He then pulled away and took the little ring out of the box with his large hands.
“Harry, it’s too big.” I said looking at the size of it.
“I know. That way everyone will know you are mine,” he said with a smile as he put the ring on my finger, sealing it off with a kiss.
