The Coffee Shop
By Jessica (aka pixiestix33) c:
"Interesting book?"
You look up from the book you were reading to see none other than your crush, Zayn Malik.
"Very," you smile, matching his smile.
He sits down in front of you, in the same table that you were sitting in.
You smile again and look down, pretending that you were reading, but in reality, you were trying to hide your blush.
"Aw come on Maddie, you're such a nerd," Zayn chuckles, sliding the book away from you.
"Psh. I thought you figured that out a while ago. I mean when we first met, I was also reading a book," you say.
"That's true," Zayn says with a smile.
~
"I'm here!" you say to your boss as you enter the coffee shop.
"Ah, Maddie. Just in time too! We're about to open," she says with a smile, as you turn over the sign from 'CLOSED' to 'OPEN'.
Your boss was a woman who was a bit old, but was in great shape for her age. You two had grown really close and you couldn't be happier about her being your boss.
Business that day was the way it is everyday, one person at least at each table, if not two. Nothing out of the ordinary.
"Maddie, it's time for your break," your boss says, as you smile and nod.
You get up, get a couple of pastries from the pantry and a cup of coffee, along with a book that you had brought, and sit down at a table while someone else worked the cash register.
"Interesting book?" you hear someone say, causing you to look up from your book.
It was a guy with sunglasses, and a beanie, holding a cup of tea in his hand.
"Very," you say, the guy looking familiar to you for some reason.
He smiles, "Mind if I sit here?"
"Go ahead," you answer.
You close your book and look at him, "You might want to take your sunglasses off, we're indoors."
"Alright, but I'm not taking off my beanie," he says with a chuckle, as he takes off his sunglasses, revealing his light brown eyes, causing you to recognize him.
"Zayn Malik?" you say, almost in a whisper, partly because you were so surprised and partly because you knew that if you said it any louder, you would be trampled by anyone in the coffee shop that loved One Direction as much as you did.
He smiles, "Thanks for not saying it so loud."
"No problem," you say, trying to tell yourself this was real life.
"So, may I know YOUR name?" he says, taking a sip from his tea.
"Madison," you say, trying not to stutter.
He smiles again, "I like it."
You blush a bit, "Thanks."
"So what's that book you're reading?" he asks, moving in closer to try to get a look at the book.
You didn't know what to do, your body got stiff, and all you did was tell him the name of the book.
"Hm, I think Liam mentioned that book once or twice," Zayn says, with his thinking face that you found adorable.
"It's really good," you say with a smile, realizing Zayn hadn't moved, so he was still a bit close to you.
"Really? Why don't you read it to me?" he asks with a smile, moving slightly closer.
You make your blush go away and start reading it to him.
From that day on, you two were inseparable.
~
"Besides, I thought you liked 'intelligent girls'," you say, putting air quotes with your fingers over intelligent girls, and finally bringing yourself out of your thoughts.
His smile grows wider, "I LOVE intelligent girls."
You blush and quickly try to change the subject, "Uh, so how's Perrie?" You mentally slap yourself. Perrie wasn't a bad person, in fact you met her a couple of times and you two talked, it's just that she was Zayn's girlfriend, so you guessed you were kind of programmed not to like her.
"Oh. She's...good," Zayn says, sliding your book back towards you.
"Just...good?" you ask, closing it.
He nods, but quickly learns that you wouldn't let that go so easily.
He sighs, "We b-"
At that moment, his phone goes off. He let's out a breath as he checks it.
"Hey, I have to go, our plane is leaving in a few hours," he says, before standing up.
"Oh. Right. I forgot that was today," you say, standing up too, seeing as you only had a few more minutes of your break left.
He wraps his arms around you, giving you a tight hug, "I'll be back."
You two separate and you give him the best smile you could, "I know."
He smiles and leans in, kissing you softly before walking away, and out the door, leaving you dumbfounded.
"Maddie! Your shift!" you hear your co-worker call out to you.
"Maddie! Maddie?" she says, now next to you.
You turn around, "Huh? Oh. Yeah, I'm going."
---- 1 Week Later ----
"Maddie?" you hear your mom call from your door.
You take out your headphones from your ears, "Yeah?"
"I need to talk to you," she says, walking in.
"What is it?" you ask, sitting down next to her.
"It's about Mrs. Hughes, you know, your boss?" she says.
"Yeah....What about her?" you ask, now worried.
"She..." your mom starts off.
"She what?"
"...passed away."
"What?" you say, your voice cracking.
"I'm sorry. Apparently in her will, she left the coffee shop in your name."
You look up at her, "Really? So I can keep the shop?"
Your mom sighs, "I wish you could, but we can't afford it."
You nod, not wanting to talk anymore. The shop was the only thing that would've kept you as close as possible to Mrs. Hughes.
---- 1 Week Later ----
"Maddie, here I come," Zayn says, as he walks down the streets, flowers in hand.
He stops in front of the shop, but sees that it's closed.
"What?" he whispers to himself.
He sees a woman passing by and stops her, "Excuse me, what happened?"
The woman looks at the coffee shop, "Oh you mean the coffee shop? I heard that the owner passed away and now the coffee shop is shut down."
"Thank you," Zayn says, handing her the flowers, and then running over to your house.
You sigh, turning the page of your book as you lie down on your bed.
"Interesting book?" you hear a voice from the door say.
You look up to see Zayn, causing you to jump off your bed and go hug him.
"You're back," you breathe out, as he buries his face on the side of your neck.
You two pull away, "I heard about the shop."
"Oh," you say.
"Which is why I'm going to buy it," he smiles.
"What?" you say, looking at him.
"Yeah," he says, extending out his hands, knowing you were going to hug him.
You practically jump on him, as he brings his lips to yours.
"Uh, Zayn," you say, before your lips can touch.
"Hmm?" he says.
"What about Perrie?" you ask.
"We broke up."
"What? Since when?"
He smiles, "About a week before, the day I first kissed you."
You smile and close the small gap between his lips and yours.
