    hivemodern.com
Design Charles & Ray Eames, 1956. Molded plywood, die-cast aluminum legs, leather upholstery. Made by Herman Miller® "Who would say that pleasure is not useful?" -Charles Eames. The Eames lounge chair is the culmination of Charles and Ray Eames' efforts to create comfortable and handsome lounge seating by using production techniques that combine technology and handcraftsmanship. Its heritage goes back to the molded plywood chairs pioneered by the Eameses in the 1940s. The Eames lounge chair is considered among the most significant and collectible furniture designs of the 20th century and is part of the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art. Charles Eames said his goal for the chair was the "warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt." Every one is a special refuge from the strains of modern living. The first lounge chair, produced in 1956, was a birthday gift for friend Billy Wilder, the Academy Award-winning film director, and it made its public debut on Arlene Francis' Home show, which later became the Today show. With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look." Every lounge chair manufactured since the original has received the same meticulous handcrafted attention. The rich veneer and supple leather suggest old-fashioned luxury translated into modern forms, setting an enduring standard for comfort and elegance. In addition, the lounge chair is now available in a veneer called santos palisander, a lustrous veneer that has the same characteristics as the original rosewood, color and grain. The chair has 6-inch thick urethane foam cushions and rich leather upholstery available in your choice of colors. The wood is harvested exclusively from sustainably managed forests and is available in five finish options. All pieces are hand assembled with a built-in swivel mechanism. chair: 32.75" w | 32.75" d | 32" h | seat: 15" h.

  • Petal Side Table By Manulution
    2modern.com
The Petal Lounge Table in solid wood is representative of the design direction of Rukotvorine, a Bosnian handicraft workshop for which it has been designed: transformation of tradition and craftsmanship into products of modern design through an abstract process and innovative carving techniques. The Petal Table is perfect as a coffee table, but also as a side table. The petals can rotate enabling infinite transformations of the Table's shape, with more or fewer petals. Patterns and plays of light are created. In this way, the table's construction combines a graceful appearance with a high degree of stability. Crafted in solid European wood and finished in eco-friendly Danish oil. Manulution buys walnut and cherry logs from private orchards throughout Bosnia. These are trunks of old trees, which are cut when their productive life of fruit bearing is over and need to be replaced by new ones. They are bought directly from villagers, often in very small quantities, whenever it is offered. Other hardwoods (i.e. maple, oak, elm, and ash) are sourced from public forestry companies, the management of which has vastly improved in recent years. The forest certification process has started and several forests are FSC certified. There is also concrete evidence that forests are exploited sustainably. A recent forestry inventory (financed and supported by the World Bank) has shown that Bosnia's forest volume has increased significantly since the last inventory was conducted in 1960s. In fact, the study indicated that Bosnia, ostensibly, has more trees per capita than any country in Europe or Central Asia.

  • Matthew Hilton Mary's Side Table
    thefutureperfect.com
Mary's Side Table, crafted in solid hardwood with a marble top, is substantial yet delicate, sculptural yet highly functional. It was inspired by a visit to the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco. Matthew Hilton was moved by the contrast of the oppressive weight of the concrete structure and the release of the swooping, expansive space within. Mary's side table captures this paradox of weight and weightlessness. The Mary's Side Table is featured here in White Oiled Oak and White Marble. Walnut or Oak, Marble. 21 1/4" W x 18 1/3" D x 19 2/3" H.
