  • Kartell Joe Colombo 4801 Armchair
Design Joe Colombo. Transparent or batch-dyed PMMA. Made in Italy by Kartell. For the first time in its 60-year history, Kartell will pay homage to one of the most iconic - and perhaps uncharacteristic - pieces in its archive with the reissue of Joe Colombo's 4801 Armchair. Originally designed by the Italian master in 1965, the 4801 chair is famous for being the only Kartell piece ever to be made entirely of wood. Now, nearly fifty years later, Kartell has developed the complex and technically challenging engineering methods necessary to produce the design as originally envisioned, in its signature plastic. An authentic symbol of design in the '60s, the highly sought-after 4801 chair is revered by private collectors and institutions alike, and has been displayed internationally at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The second generation of the 4801 chair is to be available in a numbered series beginning in February 2012, captures the curving sinuous lines and exact proportions of Colombo's design, now in sleek transparent or white and black plastic (PMMA). Joe Colombo, in his design utopia, gathered many of the common hopes of the 60's in Italy and Europe but was never slave to ideological bounds. His extremely fast escalation in becoming an internationally known designer brought him three medals at the XIII Triennale in Milan, the 1967 Compasso d'Oro award and creations which are included in permanent collections around the world. 24.4" w | 25.2" d | 27.2" h | seat: 9.8" h.

  • Kartell 4801 Armchair by Joe Colombo
The Kartell 4801 armchair was originally designed in 1965 by the Italian master of design Joe Colombo , he was considered to be one of the true design geniuses who died prematurely at the age of 41 in 1979. The 4801 chair was considered to be one of Joe's greatest designs and it was originally made from plywood, it was Kartell's first ever wooden chair and it was a change of direction for the company that exclusively produced furniture in plastic. Due to Kartell's modern industrial technology the chair has been reissued in 2011 and is now manufactured from plastic, way back in the 60s this complex and curvy chair could not be made from plastic after several failed attempts to produce it they settled on wood. This reissued version has the exact same proportions as the original Kartell armchair. The original design is much sought after in auctions and can be seen in some of the world’s most illustrious museums such as Museum of Modern Art (MOM A) New York, the Victoria and Albert in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The 4801 chair is made from technopolymer plastic and is now available in 3 colours crystal clear, black and white. Designed by Joe Colombo. Dimensions: Seat Height 25cm. Width 62cm. Depth 64cm. Height 59cm.

  • Kartell - Joe Colombo Armchair
The re-edition of a real classic piece: The Joe Colombo armchair was originally made in the 60s and it was re-edited by Kartell. The original -Armchair 4801” from Joe Colombo is an authentic symbol of the 1960s since it was presented, which is the reason why Kartell honours it with a place in the brand’s own museum. The original edition is expensive on auctions, which might be because this one is the only Kartell product made of wood. The re-edition of the Joe Colombo armchair however, is made of high class plastic, since it is the characteristic material of the Italian manufacturer Kartell. Only the modern processing makes it possible to produce the comfortable, slim and curved shape of PMMA. The armchair is available in a numbered series in three colours – transparent, white and black, wonderfully emphasizing the shape.

Made by Herman Miller® "The role of the designer is that of a very good, thoughtful host anticipating the needs of his guests." -Charles Eames. Thanks to a new proprietary process of producing fiberglass, Herman Miller is once again able to produce the Eames original 1950's Molded Fiberglass Chair safely by means of a less volatile, monomer-free "dry bind" process. Like the original shell chairs, the new fiberglass finish has the same covetable surface variation and tell-tale fiberglass striation that have attracted avid vintage collectors for decades. Available in both the arm and side chair formats in eight archival colors, the chairs can be configured with a choice of wire, dowel leg, stacking, rocker, and 4-leg bases. An array of trim, finely tailored Hopsak fabrics designed by Alexander Girard, Herman Miller's Textile Director from 1952 to 1973, round out the collection of shell customization options, fully restoring the integrity of the original 1953 shell chair offerings. All chairs can be recycled through the Herman Miller Take Back Program.
