  • Herman Miller® Eames® Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Charles & Ray Eames, 1956. Molded plywood, die-cast aluminum legs, leather upholstery. Made by Herman Miller® "Who would say that pleasure is not useful?" -Charles Eames. The Eames lounge chair is the culmination of Charles and Ray Eames' efforts to create comfortable and handsome lounge seating by using production techniques that combine technology and handcraftsmanship. Its heritage goes back to the molded plywood chairs pioneered by the Eameses in the 1940s. The Eames lounge chair is considered among the most significant and collectible furniture designs of the 20th century and is part of the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art. Charles Eames said his goal for the chair was the "warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt." Every one is a special refuge from the strains of modern living. The first lounge chair, produced in 1956, was a birthday gift for friend Billy Wilder, the Academy Award-winning film director, and it made its public debut on Arlene Francis' Home show, which later became the Today show. With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look." Every lounge chair manufactured since the original has received the same meticulous handcrafted attention. The rich veneer and supple leather suggest old-fashioned luxury translated into modern forms, setting an enduring standard for comfort and elegance. In addition, the lounge chair is now available in a veneer called santos palisander, a lustrous veneer that has the same characteristics as the original rosewood, color and grain. The chair has 6-inch thick urethane foam cushions and rich leather upholstery available in your choice of colors. The wood is harvested exclusively from sustainably managed forests and is available in five finish options. All pieces are hand assembled with a built-in swivel mechanism. chair: 32.75" w | 32.75" d | 32" h | seat: 15" h.

  • Kartell Bourgie Table Lamp
    hivemodern.com
Design Ferruccio Laviani, 2004. Polycarbonate, metallic ABS. Made in Italy by Kartell. A reminiscence of the 70's with his Easy and Fl/Icon lamps which featured playfulness, joy and color. After Take, with its young, informal and amusing design, we introduce the Bourgie lamp, of classic inspiration, the revisiting of a classic: the baroque lamp. The revolutionary invention of this lamp is it is made entirely in transparent polycarbonate. On one hand, it is classical, rich, traditional and on the other, it is innovation, transparency, irony. The quality of the material and the extremely high-quality processing makes it look like a precious, crystal lamp. The baroque style base is constituted of three decorated layers that cross over each other, and the large hood is made with a plisse effect, to create a play on reflections when lit. Thanks to a special coupling system on the hood, it can be assembled at three different heights. You can use it as a side table in the drawing room, or place it on the bedside table for evocative bedroom lighting; as a sculptural object it can be placed directly on the floor, or used as a reading lamp on a desk. Light intensity is adjustable through a high quality switch dimmer. The chrome and gold finish versions are produced in a limited edition. 14.5" dia | 26.75", 28.75" or 30.75" tall. UL listed | requires 3x40W incandescent or 3x28W E12 type B halogen bulbs.

  • Foscarini Rituals Table Lamp
    hivemodern.com
Design Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, 2012. Blown satin glass, coated metal. Made in Italy by Foscarini. One, two, three lanterns that are lightweight yet brimming with seductive texture. Three different yet concurrently complementary shapes, balancing between the east and the west. A family of lamps that sheds its relaxing light in the most diverse settings, conveying the magic of rice paper or mulberry tree bark, the raw materials of traditional Japanese lanterns, in the precious physical appeal of blown and frosted glass. The horizontal lines which cut across the surface of the lamps give rise to a soft and charming décor and at the same time contribute to filtering the intensity of the light source, diffusing a full, warm and soft light into the room. They are perfect for use alone or in a harmonious composition of shapes; on a bedside table, a console and a table or even on the floor: for an area dedicated to relaxation or as meditation lamps, wisely lighting both the space we live in as well as our interior world. Ludovica + Roberto Palomba are a group of architects and designers based in Milan, Italy. They primarily deal with architecture, industrial design, exhibit design, art direction, communications and marketing consulting. The collection of three diffuser shapes in hand-blown glass made using a glass-blowing procedure without turning the glass in the mold (referred to as "stationary"); the striped effect is achieved using a mold with negative decorations which are repeated across the surface of the glass, which is subsequently ground manually "by belt" and which then undergoes immersion in acid in order to emphasize the plaster-like effect. The diffuser rests on a die cast zinc alloy tripod coated with epoxy powder paint with a rough finish on the metal surface. Available in two versions with G9 or E27 lampholder, the version with the G9 lampholder features a dimmer on the transparent cable for the gradual adjustment of brightness, while the version with the E27 lampholder is fitted with an on/off switch. rituals 1: 15.75" h | base: 9.5" dia. | cord: 70.75" L | on/off switch 11.75" from lamp. requires 1x15W CFL or 105W E26 or 1x60W G9 halogen bulb. rituals 2: 10" h | base: 13.25" dia. | cord: 70.75" L | on/off switch 11.75" from lamp. requires 1x15W CFL or 105W E26 or 1x60W G9 halogen bulb. rituals 3: 10.5" h | base: 8" dia. | cord: 70.75" L | on/off switch 11.75" from lamp. requires 1x15W CFL or 105W E26 or 1x60W G9 halogen bulb.
