“The new collection [of Belle and Beau Pendants] offers various new lighting options due to the different effects the finish has on the lights; the black stain limits the amount of light, creating a moody mysterious space, whilst the natural option glows like a lantern. .. like our other lights which are already being used to create atmosphere and drama, rather than primarily to illuminate a room.” - David Trubridge. It was traditionally used for thatching and weaving, much like the coconut palm. But the early Maori arrivals were disappointed to see no coconuts on it, which is a possible source of the name: 'no nuts!'" - David Trubridge.
