Dear Stylist:

My mom bought me this pink ruffled dress for my prom. Long story short, I can't exchange it. I'm more of a grunge chic kind of girl. I can't remember that last time I wore pink. Truth be told, I actually want to wear it, but I'm worried my friends won't even recognize me. What do I do? Signed, GrungePink

Dear GrungePink:

I think I understand your dilemma. It certainly is fun to be feminine, but you want to be yourself. Here's what I recommend. Accessorize with solid black, to bring down the tone of the bright pink, yet keep sophistication. Although, I don't recommend safety pin accessories, I would say some grommets here and there are fashionable and current. A very light jacket may help you feel more comfortable, something without ruffles or puffiness. Actually, your best bet may be an online or local vintage shop to find something unique in lace or beading. Nothing too heavy if you want to keep it on and dance. Oh, and a smokey eye would look great, but I'd stay more neutral on the lips and nails. You don't want to be too matchy matchy :)
