  • Knoll Saarinen White Tulip Side Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Eero Saarinen, 1956. Aluminum base, fiberglass, upholstery. Made in USA by Knoll. In his purist approach to design, Finnish-born Eero Saarinen sought out the essential idea and reduced it to the most effective structural solution. He designed the 1956 Tulip chair in terms of its setting, rather than a particular shape. "In any design problem, one should seek the solution in terms of the next largest thing." He said. "If the problem is a chair, then its solution must be found in the way it relates to the room..." In the Tulip, Saarinen realized his ideal of formal unity: "Every significant piece of furniture has a holistic structure." Winner of the 1969 Museum of Modern Art Award, the Tulip is Saarinen's genius solution to clearing up the "slum of legs" that populates the under-carriage of most dining sets. Construction notes: Base is a cast aluminum, rilsan coated finish. Shell is molded fiberglass with a reinforced plastic bonded finish. Upholstered foam cushion is removable, with zippered cover and velcro fastening. Base and shell finish available in white or black. Upholstery available with a seat cushion only or with a fully upholstered inner shell. The signature of Eero Saarinen is located on the underside of the base. 20" w | 32" h | 21.25" d | seat: 18.5" h.
  • English Classics Furniture English Antique Style Oak Draw Leaf Dining Table
    english-classics.net
Recently hand crafted in England, this oak draw leaf dining table is abundant with rustic charm. This table epitomizes the farm table style with its simple square tapered legs and elegantly plain lines. The draw leaf design is perfect for making a table that can extend for larger gatherings and when you don’t need the extra space the leave store right inside the table. On this draw leaf dining table the leaves pull out and the top drops down to meet them. The leaves can be used to extend the table from 96″ long to 132″ long. When the leaves are pulled out the are very sturdy and can stand the weight of normal use. Because this table is solid oak, it is quite heavy. The top and leaves do come off the base for shipping, making it easier to carry such a heavy piece. This oak draw leaf dining table is completely hand made in England by a third generation furniture maker. He takes the time to hand distress the wood before finishing it with an elaborate hand finishing process that ends in coats of hand rubbed wax. This wax is excellent for protecting the table and can easily be replenished once or twice a year with a coat of furniture paste wax. The result of this laborious process is a stunning finish with an antique look and feel on a new table. The hand distressing and finishing lend to the rustic charm of this draw leaf dining table. Its rectangular shape, straight apron, and simple square tapered legs are an excellent reproduction of the English farm style table. It is the perfect table for an informal dining room, kitchen, or cabin.

Pick your shell and choose the wire-frame in either chrome-plated steel or black powder-coated steel for a visually satisfying chair. Easily one of the most important and recognizable designs of the twentieth century. The Fiberglass Shell Chairs were originally designed by Charles Eames in 1948 as an entry in The Museum of Modern Art’s International Design Competition. At the time, no one could possibly have anticipated the massive success and longevity of this iconoclastic design. Modernica creates each shell, by hand, one-by-one, in their Los Angeles factory"just as they had been designed, developed, and produced by the Eames Office, here in Southern California in the 1950s. Modernica uses all of the original presses and specialized equipment obtained from Century Plastics. To ensure authenticity of production, the initial shell chair production was overseen by Sol Fingerhut and Irv Green, the same team Charles Eames employed over sixty years ago to develop the original technology. Modernica is committed to the legacy of the authentic genuine design of Charles Eames. Modernica creates each chair with the charge of adhering to the original tactile qualities, texture, and characteristics that alone are unique to the fiberglass shell chair. Our fiberglass chairs contain no (PBDE) Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers.
