  • Vitra Prouvé Fauteuil De Salon Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Jean Prouvé, 1939. Powder-coated round & molded sheet steel, solid wood. Made in Germany by Vitra. "Prouvé combines the soul of an engineer with that of an architect" -Le Corbusier. Fauteuil de Salon combines plain surfaces into a complete architectural form with a comfortable seat and backrest. Rediscovered in the archives of the French design engineer, the chair's color was adapted for modern tastes. Thanks to the armrests in oiled solid wood and Prouvé's typical philosophy of focusing on design factors, Fauteuil de Salon goes perfectly with other products in the Prouvé Collection. Jean Prouvé (1901-1984), architect, engineer and designer, was endeavored for using highly-developed technologies for metal processing to achieve innovative constructions and forms in his design and architecture work. He played a decisive part in developing construction techniques using light-weight prefabricated parts in architecture, making use, among other things, of insights from the airplane and automotive industry. In his Ateliers Jean Prouvé, the company he founded in 1947, he started not only producing light-weight components but also his own design drafts. The armrests are oiled solid wood in either natural oak, smoked oak or American walnut. 26.75" w | 33" d | 32.5" h | seat: 13.

  • Carl Hansen & Son Hans Wegner Ch88 Stacking Chair With Upholstered Seat
    hivemodern.com
Design Hans Wegner, 1955. Solid wood back, upholstery, steel. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. To mark the 100th anniversary of Hans J. Wegner's birth, Carl Hansen & Son has launched Wegner's CH88 chair - a 1955 design that has, to date, existed only as a prototype. The CH88 is versatile both in terms of its appearance and usability thanks to its numerous finish, frame, and room placement options. Characteristically, the upper structure features a steam-bent wooden backrest for back support, with slight curvatures of the backrest's ends providing a natural resting place for the arms. The steel frame, with straight back legs, supports an oval-shaped wooden seat. This blend of materials, combined with a minimalist design, results in a light, organic, industrial expression. And the new, stackable design (stackable up to 4 chairs) offers a valuable benefit. The CH88 is available in beech and oak in a range of finishes. The frame is available in stainless steel, black powder coating and chrome, and the seat with optional leather or textile upholstery. Hans J Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. From 1938 to 1942, he worked as a furniture designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller´s architectural practice. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Borge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers´ Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London made him an 'Honorary Royal Designers for Industry' in 1959. 30.1" h | 17.5" d | 22.4" w | seat: 17.5" h.
