Design Eero Saarinen, 1957. Wood legs, polyurethane shell, upholstery. Made in USA by Knoll. In his groundbreaking collection of 1957, Eero Saarinen transformed executive seating into a fluid, sculptural form. Recognizing the importance of user comfort, Saarinen became the first to construct a chair shell from fiberglass, a pliable material that flexes in response to body weight. The chair is available with and without arms, and features metal or wood legs, or a swivel base. The armless chair with a plastic back, ideal for café applicatons, is a recent reintroduction. Son of the celebrated architect Eliel Saarinen, Eero was classically trained in sculpture and architecture. His collaboration with Charles Eames in 1937 led to the creation of the Organic Armchair, made from plywood and foam rubber, the first three-dimensionally shaped bucket armchair. Saarinen continued to develop this theme in the years that followed with great designs, all for Knoll. Made by Herman Miller® "The role of the designer is that of a very good, thoughtful host anticipating the needs of his guests." -Charles Eames. Thanks to a new proprietary process of producing fiberglass, Herman Miller is once again able to produce the Eames original 1950's Molded Fiberglass Chair safely by means of a less volatile, monomer-free "dry bind" process. • Vitra .04 Studio Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Maarten Van Severen, 2000. Polyurethane shell, integrated leaf springs, steel base, die-cast aluminum. Made in Germany by Vitra. .04 is different from the customary swivel chairs encountered in official offices. It is ideal for any scenario where users wish to avoid that typical office feel - for example, in the home or in studios. The flexible polyurethane foam shell yields gently to the user's weight and adapts to body contours to afford enjoyable sitting and provide comfortable flexibility for the back. A new tilting mechanism ensures a smooth transition from the sitting upright to reclining position, while also permitting slight sideways movement. As a result, .04 is exceptionally comfortable even if you want to sit for hours on end. Available with or without armrests. Formal clarity and simplicity are distinguishing aesthetic features of Maarten Van Severen's designs. His work, handproduced in his workshop in Ghent Belgium, reflects his quest for perfection in form, detail and fabrication. Their appearance is restrained and elegant. Every element is structurally motivated and reduced to its essential form. Maarten works in a variety of different materials: aluminium and ply to bakelite and polyester. no armrests: 31.75" - 36.5" h | 16" w | 19.25" - 20.75" d. armrests: 31.75" - 36.5" h | 22.25" w | 19.25" - 20.75" d.

  • Knoll Generation Work Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Formway, 2009. Made in USA by Knoll. Generation by Knoll offers a new standard of comfort and unrestrained movement, supporting the range of postures and work styles typical of today's workplace. Designed by Formway Design, Generation takes the idea of elastic design-where a product rearranges itself in response to its user-to a new level. Generation is the result of Formway Design's research into how people sit throughout the day. Recognizing the basic assumption about office seating-that there is one optimal way to sit-was flawed, Formway and Knoll joined forces to create a chair that moves as you move. Generation doesn't force you to choose between freedom of movement and continuous support, but, instead, provides both, simultaneously. Generation redefines the modern office with innovative features that make work easier. This revolutionary work chair reflects Knoll's commitment to environmental sustainability. Generation is the first chair to earn a SMaRT© Sustainable Platinum rating. It is also GREENGUARD Children & Schools certified and can contribute to achieving LEED® points. Generation moves as you move, encouraging free expression, creativity and engagement at work. The Flex Seat offers 270 degrees of seat edge flex without a hard frame or obtrusive levers along the seat perimeter. It features adjustments for seat height, as well as 3" of seat depth adjustment. A tilt selector allows for additional resistance in the recline. The synchronized recline of the Dynamic Suspension control counterbalances your body weight, resulting in a smooth and effortless ride. The Generation arm provides 4.5" of height adjustment. High performance arms incorporate a free-floating arm pad that naturally adjusts as you change from a task-oriented position to a side seated posture. And an optional height-adjustable lumbar attachment is available for those who need additional support. With its many color and finish choices, Generation by Knoll can energize space much in the same way that it energizes users. armless: 21" w | 26" d | 39.25"-44.5" h | seat: 15"-20.25" h | base: 26.75" dia. with arms: 28.5" w | 26" d | 39.25"-44.5" h | seat: 15"-20.25" h | base: 26.75" dia.
