  • Net-A-Porter and Gucci team up for a dreamy capsule collection
    More info
Hot on the heels of Gucci-mania, luxury e-tailer Net-A-Porter has tapped the storied Italian house for an exclusive spring capsule collection. The 20-piece lineup drops worldwide on May 12 (that's tomorrow!), and encompasses ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories, all embellished in the quirky trademarks and motifs that have become synonymous with Gucci ever since the inauguration of creative director Alessandro Michele. Billowy scarves, mannish mules, the ubiquitous Dionysus handbag, and even a pair of sneakers are rendered in the collection’s central motif—a delicate rose print inspired by a 19th Century tapestry. The lineup is also replete with Michele's signature touches: pearls, neckties, Heron-prints, and diaphanous pleating, all bereft of the double-G monogram. Phone cases are slated to be released a few weeks later, starting at $270. In the meantime, prices range from $465 for a silk scarf to $5,300 for a red silk and wool dress. • A California Tea Party with Leela Cyd
    More info
A few weeks back, on a very hot Southern California day, I had a gaggle of girlfriends over for a tea party in a fancy greenhouse to celebrate the launch of my cookbook, Food with Friends: The Art of Simple Gatherings. I went pretty over the top with a decadent menu of nibbles from the book, soul music crooning from under the table, a dress code (yes, I went there!), and finally a beautiful group walk on the beach when it was all over. So far I've shared the party plan, a couple recipes from my cookbook, and my party playlist. Here's how everything came together.
  • Recipe Double-Crusted Chicken Tenders with Sriracha-Honey BBQ Sauce
    More info
Who doesn't love a chicken tender, really? I think tenders are everyone's favorite — especially at a party. These tenders are easy to make; the ingredients and steps are simple enough for novice cooks to successfully follow and do. The tenders also have the flavor and texture we crave in chicken fingers — juicy and moist with a golden brown-crust — but they are baked rather than fried (although people swear otherwise).

  • Everything I Know About Cooking I Learned from a Cast Iron Pan
    More info
I cook with a cast iron pan almost every day. I have one on my stove at all times so it’s within easy reach. All cooks have their “thing” — trusted measuring cups, a special knife, or a beloved wooden spoon — cast iron is mine. I could say that I use it because my mama or my grandma did, because that’s true. I have a cherished collection that spans almost 100 years, ranging from my maternal great-great-grandmother Lawson’s and my paternal grandma’s everyday pans, to a couple 15-inch Lodge skillets bought at Target and a modern, octagonal-shaped pan sent by friends in Portland. Their presence in my kitchen certainly is heartfelt and handy. To me, though, cast iron is so much more. Everything I know about cooking is connected to a cast iron pan. I value and trust that implicitly.
