This week's DIY is all about your favorite soft T-shirt, with a stylish twist. Who doesn't love to be comfortable and chic at the same time? For this chevron-striped tee, you will need a laundered T-shirt, painter's tape, fabric paint, cardboard, chalk, a ruler and scissors.
Begin by placing the cardboard inside the shirt and pinning the sleeves to the back. You want the shirt to be taut but not stretched too tight. Also, tape any areas you do not want painted (neckline, sleeves and so on). Use the tailor's chalk to draw one vertical line down the center of the tee from the neck to the hem, then two more from the shoulder to the hem, each 4.25" from the center line. These are your guidelines that will help you create an even pattern.
Now tape your zigzag! Make sure to keep the tape points even so they meet up. You can always use a pair of scissors to shape your chevron points. Press the tape firmly down. Lightly spray the paint onto the shirt and blot excess paint from the tape. Repeat until desired pattern is achieved. Once dry, gently remove the tape.
