I finally decided to illustrate a poem & blog post I wrote about six months ago: http://survivorscanthrive.blogspot.com/2009/03/doormat-no-more.html

Doormat No More

I have always
been a doormat.

But, the dirt
that's been scraped
on me
from the throng
of careless boots
seems to have contained
a few viable seeds.

My once barren mat
now sprouts
seedlings of assertiveness.
At first, only
tentative, tender shoots
barely poke through
the trampled earth.

Then, saplings of self-respect
reach for the sun:
boundaries, affirmations and
the ability to say "no."

I am growing
firm, bold
hybrids of strength
into a mighty grove
of confidence.

Excellent poem! I love it. :D Especially the part about the "ability to say 'no'". Very acute.

I would be honored, Grace. I want to get up my nerve to submit some poetry, etc. to Many Voices Press...maybe some day. And, oh, I pm'd you about the Marjaka thing. Don't worry, I've gotten used to it and I like it, actually. ;)

Thank you so much, Julaine, for visiting my blog (I'm assuming that's where you went with the link--not my dot com site). I appreciate the compliments and support. I've been so close to pulling down the blog and the site so many times. I'm glad I didn't.

I visited your site, and found myself wanting to spend the rest of the night reading through it. You are a gifted writer and communicator, and your sets add so much more. Thank you so much for sharing more of yourself.
