  • Jaime Hayon Ro Lounge Chair
    dwr.com
Spanish designer Jaime Hayon immersed himself as a teenager in both skateboard culture and graffiti art, which lie at the core of the bold and whimsical forms that he creates today. In 1997, after studying industrial design in Madrid and Paris, he joined Fabrica, a research center in Treviso, Italy, where he soon became the head of design. Hayon struck out on his own in 2003, first devising collections of ceramics and furniture, then delving into interior design. His work is featured in several museums and has received accolades from the likes of Time and Wallpaper magazines. Hayon designed his Ro Lounge Chair (2013) to offer relief from frenetic everyday life. “My goal was to create a slim and elegant chair that encourages reflection and comfort,” he explains. Appropriately named – ro is Danish for “tranquility” – this sculptural chair beckons you to relax, offering chair-and-a-half proportions beautifully suited to changing positions, reading a newspaper or having your dog sitting next to you as you unwind. Upholstered with a tufted back and flared outer shell, it’s marked by subtle textural contrast and flowing organic lines. This is the authentic Ro Lounge Chair produced by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Poland.

  • Mater Shell Lounge Chair - Black Leather, Soaped Oak
    shophorne.com
The Shell Chair is developed out of Michael Dreebens ongoing interest in traditional craft practices in North India - in this case saddle making. Exquisitely made saddles have been produced in India for centuries, and although some horse culture persists, it's waning as India becomes more technologically developed. The Shell Chairs attempt to incentivize this skilled trade by providing these artisans with a new market for their craft, and hopefully encouraging them to pass it on to younger generations. The shape of the chair is an homage to Scandinavian design of the mid-twentieth century and embraces some of its core values: it's clean of line and is intended to emphasize the leather forming and stitching, it's deeply comfortable, and it's durable – like the saddles it's derived from, it's crafted from thick, top-grain leather, and with reasonable care, will last for decades. Frame: Soaped Oak. Leather: Black leather.

  • Artek Paimio Armchair
    shophorne.com
As part of the permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art, the Paimio Chair is an icon in furniture design. The chair was created by Alvar Aalto in 1932 as part of the furniture he designed for the tuberculosis sanatorium in the city of the same name. The frame that forms the armrests and floor runners are 2 closed loops of laminated wood. Between these rests a single sheet of plywood bent in such a way as to challenge just how far wood can be bent. The headrest and seat edge are tightly rolled to provide the greatest resiliency while the angle was chosen to provide the best position for the patient’s optimal breathing comfort. This remarkable chair is offered with a clear lacquered frame and a seat lacquered in black or white.
  • Skargaarden Haringe Armchair
    shophorne.com
The Haringe series of teak furniture is refined elegance for indoors, outdoors or anything in between. The sophistication of the series makes it ideal for around the swimming pool, in the game room or just about anywhere. The teak slats are framed with either stainless steel or black stainless steel. The cushions are given a sophisticated touch through the use of buttons and decorative stitching so they are not waterproof but the beauty is still undeniable. The cushions are available in either a weather durable Sunbrella fabric or in imitation leather with loose patches sewn together by hand and buttons added along the seams. The leather cushions are for indoor use only. The series has an armchair, lounge chair, sofa, and cocktail tables in 2 sizes as well as 3 sizes of a dining table. As with all teak furniture, to maintain the original luster the teak requires to be oiled once or twice a year. If left untreated the wood will develop a silvery gray patina which is equally beautiful.

  • Driade Swivel Nemo monobloc armchair
    lovethesign.com
The Nemo monobloc armchair recalls a human figure capable of becoming abstract and universal, able to suggest an archetypical beauty type just like ancient Greek art used to do. The result is a head-armchair to be lived from the inside. Its name is a tribute to Ulysses - in a classical era around the 800 b.C, Nemo was the name chosen by Ulysses to deceive Plyphemus, the cyclops in Homer's epic poem. Used to disguise, Ulysses declares his name to be Nemo - no-one - in order to escape from certain death - he destroys his personality under the survival instinct. Nemo is therefore a mask - no memories, no expression, no feelings. An abstract model with no sex, the archetype to all kinds of beauty that ever were in this world. Inside a smooth face-shaped shell, the lines of facial muscles appear. Designed by Fabio Novembre for Driade, Nemo was presented for the first time during Milan Design Week - Salone del Mobile 2010. Polyethylene swivel monobloc available in three colours - white, black. For indoor use only. Online you can also find a fixed version of Nemo.

Toy chair is deliberately abstract in its composition and, for this reason, comfortable in unpredictable ways. Seemingly carved from a block, Toy speaks a language of sharp and broad surfaces that set it apart from other moulded polypropylene chairs. Under this point of view, Toy is unique even within Philippe Starck's design corpus. Colourful, fresh, and modern - these are the features of the Toy armchair by the Italian manufacturer Driade. It was created in 1999 by the most famous representative of new design: Philippe Starck. An extremely comfortable armchair with a memorable design, stackable up to 14 chairs. Thanks to its material features (robust polypropylene) the Toy chair is especially suited for outdoor use.
