  • Philippe Starck Hudson Armless Task Chair, Brushed
    dwr.com
Originally designed for the Hudson Hotel in New York City, the Hudson Collection (2000) is Philippe Starck’s update of the 1006 Navy® Chair, designed by Emeco in 1944. Hudson is made using the same 77-step process that Emeco perfected 70 years ago to satisfy the military’s need for lightweight, corrosion-resistant chairs for submarines. The company’s proprietary metal processing method yields aluminum three times stronger than steel – and a chair so durable that it has an estimated life span of 150 years. “Working with Emeco has allowed me to use a recycled material and transform it into something that never needs to be discarded – a tireless and unbreakable chair to enjoy for a lifetime,” says Starck. “It is a chair you never own, you just use it for a while until it is the next person’s turn.” The seat of the Hudson Task Chair swivels and tilts, and the pneumatic lift provides instant height adjustment. Hudson is included in the design collection at MoMA and received the 2000 Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum. Hudson chairs and stools come with a lifetime guarantee. This is the authentic Hudson Chair by Emeco. Made in U.S.A. Made from 80% recycled aluminum (40% post-consumer, 40% post-industrial), which requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce virgin aluminum. Hudson is a patented design by Philippe Starck for Emeco. It is illegal for another company to clone this chair. At DWR, the Emeco products we sell are 100% authentic.

  • &tradition Fly Chair SC1 by Space Copenhagen
    hauslondon.com
The new FLY Series by SPACE Copenhagen is a lounge collection made up of two sofas and an armchair. Pushing the idea of lounging to its fullest, FLY is a series that allows the user to sit, lie, rest, and relax. Unlike many of the sofas and easy chairs in Scandinavian design history, FLY does not impose any particular posture onto the sitter. The seat itself is optimised for comfort, with loose cushions for the back that can be arranged according to the user’s own needs. But FLY adheres to tradition in other respects; the frame of the sofa and armchair, with a slatted back rest, is made from oak, treated with white pigmented oil or smoked oil. It is the type of material and treatment that ages with true grace, only becoming more beautiful with time. Frame Solid oak, oak veneer, and plywood. Finish - Smoked oiled oak or White oiled oak frame. Upholstery Cold cured foam and natural down fillings. Upholstery: Chivasso Hot Madison (CH1249/094) (Light colour) - Cotton/Linen blend. Chivasso Hot Madison (CH1249/093) (Dark colour) - Cotton/Linen blend. Harald 2 182 - blue velvet. Dimensions: Armchair: H 700mm x D 800mm, L 870mm. Seating height on all models is 400mm.

Verner Panton created several versions of the Amoebe for his famous Visiona installation in 1970. The revolutionary home concepts from that time are still current and even modern. Verner Panton was humorous – how else could the armchair have been called Amoebe? The idol of nature also ensures that Panton’s designs are timeless and don’t know any design eras. The Vitra made Amoebe embodies the happy-cheeky spirit of the early 1970s as a ground-based piece of furniture: Conventional chairs weren’t demanded anymore, it was about low, comfortable furniture instead, which were reusable. The Amoebe Armchair is ergonomically suitable to the human body in its organic and one-piece design, completely according to its unicellular model. Vitra manufactures the harmonically designed armchair in a laminated structure with foam cushioning, coated with the sophisticated Tonus fabric by Kvadrat.

  • Vitra - Standard Chair

Jean Prouvé made a big classic piece with his Standard chair: It was initially designed in 1934 and re-edited in 1950 by the French designer. Vitra interpreted the chair again and brought it to contemporaneity. A chair has to be resistant in its back legs, since there rests the weight of the body relaxing on it. This simple cognition was realized on an embossing way in the Standard chair by the designer and constructer Jean Prouvé: The backside legs of the chair are voluminous hollow bodies giving the load to the ground, while the front-legs are less loaded, consisting of steel tube. The Standard is a model for Prouvés architectural design approach: The chair follows the rules of utility and shows its construction outspokenly. The materials are as timeless as the construction: Vitra produces the Standard chair out of steel and oak wood. The chair is available in different colours.
