goodreads review:

Ofcourse you already know this love story is about two people from two different worlds that came together. Eleanor is the new kid in town. Park is the half-Korean guy. Eleanor is poor, major understatement right there but no other word to describe it. She ends up wearing men's clothes that are a bit big for her. She's a big girl, red hair, freckles. Never had a boyfriend before until she meets Park. They go to school together and end up sitting together on the bus. Park likes comic books. One day he notices her reading along with him. This is a start of a beautiful relationship. He ends up bringing her comic books. She has a binder that she writes lyrics to songs she wants to hear or songs she likes. He ends up bringing her mix tapes of the people she wanted to hear. They mainly talk about the music and books, sometimes nothing at all. Other times, everything is being spoken about.

“Eleanor was right: she never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”

Over time they start liking eachother and end up dating. Eleanor always put herself down thinking how could someone like me like that and all these other issues. Many people at the school don't like her. Park even ends up fighting Steve about it. People backed off a bit.

It doesn't matter what people call you unless they call you pigeon pie and eat you up. - Evelyn Waugh
This quote makes me think of Eleanor. Everyone would call her BigRed and other such names. She didn't let it get to her, atleast not in front of them. It also reminds me of the quirky flirting techniques Eleanor used. About wanting to kiss him/eating his face and other things she would think about.

things i liked:
The music references
The book references
How Eleanor had DeNice and Beebi to turn to
Park and Eleanor
Eleanor's siblings

I really ended up hating Eleanor's stepdad. Surprisingly, i still liked her mom. Her mom was just messed up from being with Richie(stepdad). She kind of put her life and kids on the back burner to be with him. Endless fights, defending him. It just never ended. You kind of figured something was wrong with him and Eleanor... like why did her mom always watch her when taking a bath and all that?

“Holding Eleanor's hand was like holding a butterfly. Or a heartbeat. Like holding something complete, and completely alive.”

I kind of guessed that the dad was the one who was writing the things on her binder. Especially after Park made her look in on her stuff during gym class such nothing was there, not even her gym clothes. I wonder if Richie did that too? Especially since Tina was really nice at the end. That was quite the shock too.

“What are the chances you’d ever meet someone like that? he wondered. Someone you could love forever, someone who would forever love you back? And what did you do when that person was born half a world away? The math seemed impossible.”

Another thing i hated was the ending! I'm glad Park was there for her, how his parents even helped in a small way.... and then Park always wrote to her! How romantic is that? I can't believe she never wrote anything back until the very end of the book. And we don't even know what she said! Such a cliffhanger. My guess would be "i love you" since she never said it back to him. Could also be "i miss you" or "two of us". Two of us is the reference to the Beatles which she said reminded her of their relationship at one time in the book. It might even deal with prom since Park just had it near the ending. Maybe something along the lines of "prom next year?". She could have wrote something extremely mean! Or maybe some other sort lyrics or maybe "come see me" or "i'm coming back" anything. ugh lol
