Few days have passed since Halloween party; did something changed during them?
Yoru kept planning her little revenge; but she wasn’t cruel. She was unable to actually hurt anybody. The sight of HaMin was frustrating her; to the point she wanted to rush through crowd of students who were separating them in the dining room and punch him the face. At the same time, how could she punch him in that pretty face?
Once, during dinner break, HaMin was talking with the girl he danced during ball. All red from emotions, mostly anger, Yoru kept staring at them from her place. It was then when Jia – the queen of the ball! – joined her. She overheard Yoru’s hopes for revenge where two of them were entering the room, and she decided she could help a little.
The moment the girl sat next to Yoru she shivered; it was a sign Jia was possibly dangerous to her.
“I can help you.” The girl offered with cunning smirk. “I can embarrass him in front of that girl.”
“How?” Yoru asked interested; despite the fact she was feeling like if she was playing with a fire.
“You see, I can relieve high blood pressure but I can also do the opposite..” Jia smiled at some memory. “If you know what I mean”.
It took Yoru more than a while to realize what that meant; she burnt from embarrassment herself imagining the situation. She quickly shook her head no.
“Thank you for your offer…”
“I see; you don’t really want to have your revenge on him, do you?” Jia noticed correctly.
While Yoru was trying hard to be mad at HaMin, the boy had a lot more serious problem. Whenever he closed his eyes and felt asleep, the man visited him and kept offering him unimaginable power for releasing him from the world of the dead. He was also partially controlling HaMin’s body in those moments when he was asleep, trying to feed him with souls of other students. Since HaMin didn’t want to meet the man, he stopped sleeping. But insomnia wasn’t solution he could use forever.
One day the boy knocked at assistant headmaster Mithra’s door; he didn’t want to go straight to the headmaster being afraid he could put him back into dangerous class.
“Sit, sit boy” Mithra pointed at one of chairs in his office. “What brings you here?”
“I wish to get separate room, sir.” HaMin said in his cold voice.
“Separate room, you say? What’s the reason? Separate rooms are reserved for dangerous students, and you should know about it. Are you being dangerous again?”
“No.” HaMin kept his poker face. “I just can’t stay in one room with three loud guys.”
“Why not?” Mithra chuckled.
“Because I hate people.” The lie sounded true in HaMin’s mouth; he avoided people and everyone could notice that.
“Hate people. For that we have a solution, and it’s not a separate room! I have an assignment for you: within a week find a friend.” Mithra smiled.
‘Very funny’ thought HaMin but remained silent. ‘After your death I’ll keep summoning you to bother you!’ He promised to himself and frustrated left the room.
The boy who was sitting in far end of library, hoping no one would bother him there, looked at empty chair from which the voice come out.
“Taec.” He called ghost’s name to force him to become visible.
“You don’t look the best.” The ghost noticed even paler than usual complexion and dark circles under his living friend’s eyes.
“You wouldn’t look good too if you haven’t sleep for few days.”
“Partying, huh?” Taec elbowed HaMin but the boy didn’t feel anything; the ghost transparent body couldn’t really touch him. “Listen I have a huuuuuge favor to ask you.”
“I hope it’ll get me busy enough to prevent me from falling asleep.” HaMin almost silently said.
“Listen, there’s one girl in school I really want to touch but with those hand” the ghost helplessly raised his hands “ I can do nothing. Can I posses you? Just for an hour!”
“15 minutes.” HaMin didn’t want to give control of his body for that long period of time to the ghost, even if he was his friend.
“15 minutes? Still better than nothing!” Taec smiled widely.
HaMin’s power – necromancy – was allowing him to summon the dead; but it also had its weakness; he was vulnerable to being possessed by ghost and in the past it happened to him quite a lot. He learnt how to close his body and mind from ghost before he left dangerous class.
But he knew Taec well enough to trust him he wasn’t going to harm him; he also pitted the ghost boy who died young and couldn’t fully experience what he wanted.
“15 minutes.” HaMin reminded and relaxed his mind, to make space for the ghost to get in and control his own body.
Yoru was walking slowly to girl’s dormitory; it was late and the only sounds that was filling the hall were here own steps. She tripped over her own untied shoelace.
When she was about to got up, her body tensed and her sense warned her of possible danger. Ungrateful seconds ago, now she got up quickly, ready to run away.
In front of her was standing HaMin and laughing; she usually saw him so gloomy his bright face at that moment stopped her from escaping.
“That’s not funny!” She pouted.
“Hello Yoru.” He said but Yoru had a feeling the words weren’t formed by him; and his eyes were strangely distant. She become aware again. “I don’t have much time to talk, so I’ll move straight to actions.” He smiled widely and stretched his hand in the direction of her chest. She grabbed it skillfully before it reached its aimed and twisted his wrist painfully. HaMin seemed to not feel pain at all.
“Maybe a kiss then?” He suggested and leaned closer to her; Yoru wasn’t really controlling herself: it was her power of self defense that recognized boy’s behavior as danger. She punched him once; then again making his nose bleed. He still seemed unaffected by her self defense.
Suddenly, when the clock chimed midnight, HaMin’s body shivered and white fog that quickly formed into shape of a human left his body.
“You!” Yoru pointed bewildered at Taec. “Ghost-pervert!”
“Hi again.” He smiled charmingly at her.
HaMin who was now holding his nose stared at him .
“B.astard! It’s last time I borrowed you my body!” His voice was full of pain. “She could kill me.”
“Sorry, I forgot you feel pain.”
“Go away before I summon some boxer spirit to kick you’re a.ss!”
Taec smiled charmingly for the last time before vanishing. “See you soon!”
Yoru kept staring at the boy; she felt enormously guilty for hurting him.
“Are you…oaky?” She asked shyly.
“If we don’t count twisted wrist and probably broken nose, I’m fine. “ The boy hissed in her direction. “I’m not surprised you’re single when you treat boys like punching bags.”
“It was self defense!”
“Kissing and a bit of touching, or whatever Taec was intending to do, is not that dangerous, believe me.” The boy kept pressing his sleeve to his bleeding nose. “Why this won’t stop bleeding?” He asked himself.
“Follow me!” Yoru grabbed his hand and started moving in the direction of girl’s dormitory.
“Ouch!” HaMin protested, still feeling pain in the hand that was twisted by her.
“It’s breaking rules.” He said when they were standing in front of the door to the dormitory.
“Who said I’ll allow you to step inside? Wait here.”
After a while she was back with Jia who didn’t look to happy to be disturbed at that hour.
“Your drag me here just to stop bleeding from the nose?”
Yoru nodded energetically; her eyes were begging Jia to help her so the girl placed her hand on HaMin’s nose and stopped the bleeding immediately.
“Don’t bother me next time to do smoothing that easy.”
“Unnie, thank youuu!” Yoru looked like if she was about to give Jia hug; the older girl only smirked and hide herself back in girl’s dormitory.
“You should go inside too.” HaMin said. “I don’t feel safe being alone around you.” His mouth curved in tiny smile.
‘He joked!’ Yoru hugged her Arpakasso toy. ‘How could I beat him first?’ She turned on her bed with sudden frustration. ‘He looked tired…and sick.
Like Yonghye when she can’t sleep.’
That night Yoru couldn’t fell asleep too; she was worried about HaMin. ‘He doesn’t have anyone to help him.’
That one single sentence that pop out in her head woke her up completely.
She got up from her bed and shook Yonghye’s arm to wake her up – knowing the consequence could be the girl’s bad mood.
“Yonghye!” She whispered. „ I need your help.”
“I hope it’s something really important. And urgent. “ The girl said slowly getting up.
“We’re breaking school rules.” Yonghye said in front of boys dorm’s door.
“Like if you actually cared about them!” Yoru pushed the door, and the girls sneaked inside to large livingroom; there was someone sitting on sofa.
“Shhh….” Yoru shushed her friend and silently sneaked to the sofa; she recognized it was HaMin. “He’s sleeping!”
“He looked like if he wanted to stay awake.” Yonghye noticed turned on lamp and pile of books next to him. “I have bad feeling about this, and I don’t own your powers!”
“Just sneak into his dream for a second! Look at his face, he must dream something terrible.”
“And that’s one of the reason why I don’t want to do it!” Yonghye sat next to the boy and started realxing herself in order to felt asleep and enter his dream.
“Stop resisting; one soul. One soul and you’ll be able to release me; and I’ll make you the most powerful man on Earth!”
The shadow land was gray like the first time HaMin met the man; but this time it was filled with two comfortable armchairs. The man was sitting on one of them, and Yonghye could see the top of his head over it’s backrest. HaMin was sitting opposite him and he noticed the girl but tried to keep his attention on the man.
“I gave you the power to feed yourself with human souls; use it! What you’re waiting for?”
“Run!” HaMin ordered; between him and the man was standing small table with his glass of red liquid; HaMin tossed it at him, giving Yonghey more time to escape. The man turned back to her; and she didn’t see the face he was showing to HaMin to gain his rust; it was his true face, indescribable ugly and frightening. He raised from his armchair, ignoring HaMin’s attempts to stop him.
Yonghye felt someone was shaking her body to woke her up; before she left HaMin’s dream she could hear the man hissing ‘…one soul is a price of me letting her escape!’
“Yonghye!” Yoru was shaking her friend with tears in her eyes. ‘What have I done?’ she kept repeating to herself. The moment her friend fell asleep, Yoru felt enormous danger – but strangely not aimed at her but at her friend.
When Yonghye finally opened her eyes, Yoru hugged her with relief.
“I’m so sorry. “ The girls heard HaMin’s weak voice.
“Sorry?!” Yonghye got up and pointed at the boy. “Who was that?”
“A dead man who wants to be alive again.” HaMin explain massaging his temples.”Don’ worry he can visit only my head.”
“And force you to eat souls!”
“He doesn’t have a power over me here.”
“Have you told about it headmaster?” Yoru asked, worried by the conversation of her friend and the boy.
“I can cope with it by myself.” He said coldly.
“I don’t think so.” Yonghye
“Yonghye;s right! You should go to the headmaster!”
“I’ve told you I can cope with it, alright?” He raised his voice.
“Come Yoru, it’s HIS problem.”The two girls left the room.
For the next few days they were avoiding HaMin; Yonghye kept her eye at Yoru kniwing the girl could do something reckless (like trying to talk with that dangerous boy).
HaMin was doing the same; avoiding them and other people as well. And when the last of day of the week came; when he knew he failed the assignment to find friend, he left the school to find right person to feed on her soul; he owned that to the man.
That day Yoru had strange, new feeling; she was worried, and just like the night when Yonghye entered HaMin’s dream, she felt someone was in danger. After checking that her friend was fine, Yoru noticed HaMin leaving the school building. Ignoring her sense that was warning her that it was best ides to stay inside, Yoru put on her red coat and followed HaMin into dark night, where howling wind was her only companion into danger.
@hellounicorn , *overusing your Yonghye again* Tell me if I should change something *or everything*
I really hope to write something more cheerful next time!
