De Segonzac's watercolors, lithographs, and etchings include landscapes, dancers, figures, and still life, executed with great spontaneity and elegance. The translucent quality of his etchings stands in contrast to the thickly painted surfaces and generally somber color of his oil paintings, which reflected his admiration for Courbet and Cézanne. He found lithography and etching to be complementary to his spontaneous drawing style, and by the end of his life, he had produced some 1,600 different prints. Lithograph on Japanese paper, 1964. Limited quantity. Annotated and stamped by the Mourlot Estate. Traditional silver frame. 4-ply soft charcoal archival mat. Tru Vue Conservation Clear® glass. Artist Biography. De Segonzac was born near Paris. After a period of military service, he studied at the Académie de La Palette. Soon he became a member of the group known as the "Section d'Or," which stressed geometric aspects in Cubism. He was one of the modernists included in the Armory Show that opened in New York in 1913. Between 1914 and 1918, he published and exhibited a number of war drawings, and by war's end, he had earned the Croix de Guerre. After 1920, his painting style became more lyrical and naturalistic.
