Estève was influenced by Léger and Bonnard, but in later years, the Surrealist and Abstract Expressionist movements captured his attention. His stylized figure, still life, and landscape compositions with strong colors gradually became completely abstract, with tight-knit interlocking shapes in rich, bold colors. His paintings established a new pictorial language: lyrical abstractions with the aim of depicting form and color with an almost poetic attitude. Lithographic poster, 1974. Limited quantity. Transitional black frame with subtle silver brush strokes. 8-ply soft white archival mat. Tru Vue Conservation Clear® glass. Artist Biography. Estève was an abstract painter and a central figure of Tachism. He was born in Culan. His family moved to Paris in 1913. He worked for a year as designer in a textile factory in Barcelona, and he later attended the free course at the Académie Colarossi where he studied the works of Fouquet and Uccello in the Louvre and particularly admired Cézanne. Estève took part in the Venice Biennale in 1954, and his works are established in most major art museums.

This lithograph is a beautiful, rich interpretation of a famous painting by Léger, which was published by Fernand Mourlot in honor of the artist. Tru Vue Conservation Clear® glass. Artist Biography. Léger was a draftsman, illustrator, printmaker, stage designer, filmmaker, and ceramicist. It was a confluence of influences that encouraged Picasso to lend his figures more weight and structure around 1906. A major theme running through Lanskoy's work is the interaction of form and color. He breaks the subject to make it disappear in large solid colors and light refractions. Lanskoy's lyrical and dynamic abstract compositions were a revelation in a climate dominated by cold geometric abstraction, and although he refused to be categorized, he was an important forerunner of Tachism. Lithograph on Arches paper, c.1965. Limited quantity. Signed and numbered in pencil by the artist. Traditional silver frame. 8-ply ivory archival mat. Tru Vue Conservation Clear® glass. Artist Biography. Lanskoy was a painter and printmaker who is associated with the post-War school of lyrical abstract painting called "Tachism." He was born Andrei Michailovitch Lanskoyin, son of Comte Lanskoy, in Moscow and fought in the Tsarist White Army during the Russian Revolution. Lanskoy left Russia afterwards, moving to Paris in 1921. He studied at the famously progressive Académie de la Grande Chaumière, painting portraits and still lifes in vivid colors with thick applications of paint, inspired by Vincent van Gogh and Chaïm Soutine. After 1942, he began to paint exclusively abstract works.
