  • Hilary Pfeifer Beauty of Life 9 Wood Wall Art
    artfulhome.com
Part of an intricate installation of over 900 wearable pins, brooches, and necklaces titled The Beauty of Life. The artist created this wall-mounted plaque with removable, wearable pins from the original installation. This piece is a 6x6 inch square maple with a hanging bracket on the back. This allows you to mount it on the wall, but remove it if you want to wear one, two, or both of these brooches. Flying high above is a bird brooch whose body is made from a found ornamental picture frame. The bottom brooch is meant to invoke a floral landscape. The length of the stems on these pins makes them most suitable for wearing on heavier garments such as sweaters or winter coats. This piece was made from recycled wood and other found objects. As these pins were originally part of the repeating sections of my project, there were originally 24 similar pieces made, although no two are identical. This piece is signed and dated on the back.

  • James Bourret Winter's Veil No.2 Black & White Photograph
    artfulhome.com
In his "Winter's Veil" series, Bourret delves into the properties and aesthetics of the Water's Edge. The changing landscape, the effects of current and water volume, light, and temperature all make the river s edge different from day to day. Seasonal progression brings further changes, with winter bringing the growing and changing veil of ice along the bank, increasing until the surface is solid. Even then, the ice changes in shape and transparency on a daily basis, thinning, clearing, cracking, buckling, melting and freezing again, and eventually moving tectonically downstream. These highly abstract images seek to transcend boundaries of formal and scale recognition. Flowing lines and curved forms in the ice are interrupted by spiky, angular forms and layered textures. The seemingly random crystalline forms and structures evoke associations with landforms (aerial photography) and micro-crystalline structures (photomicrography) and leave room for endless possibilities of interpretation. Limited edition pigment print on archival rag paper. Paper size is 17''H x 22''W. Dimensions refer to image size.
