Ah finally come to publishing this set! It has been in my drafts for weeks and weeks!

This book review is a little different, as I am reviewing Twilight fanfiction.

You can read it here: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7659651

Basically I started reading Dusty during my reading slump following Harry Potter, after 2 unfinished books (Killing Sarai and Tears of Tess) and 1 other twilight Fanfiction called Quiet Storm because they were all boring and unworthy of finishing, then I started reading Dusty but then I stopped because for the obvious reason it was boring. I went on to read Unwind by Neal Shusterman and it the best decision I ever made because it was awesome. But then, instead of reading Unwholly (2nd book of Unwind), you know what I did – I went back to reading THIS. Worst reading decision I ever made. You’ll see why in this ranty review:

There is a lot of hype about Dusty, which is the reason I started reading it and to get out of my reading slump. One word to describe this Twilight fanfiction was that it is so frustrating. I am dissatisfied with how it ended. I’m not asking for a happy ending but the way it ended felt like it was not finished. I would have stopped reading if I knew it would end like this. I got to chapter 19 thinking of stopping (I should have done!) but thought I might as well read on to know how it ends and to see what is so special about it. There is my first mistake...

Summary: She loves him. He loves her crazy. She's a hopeless romantic. He's just hopeless. She's afraid to let go. He won't let her. A story about a silly girl in love with a foolish boy. Here, forever is a lie.

I like the summary. It doesn’t tell you too much but gives you a general idea of what the story is about. It’s short and sweet and straight to the point.

The story opens up with Isabella Bliss (Bliss is her nickname) she’s 9 or 10 years old. Bella’s hair is strawberry-blonde, instead of brown, so just imagine Kristen Stewart when she went ginger for ‘On the Road.’ She and her family are moving to Forks, where she meets tomboy dirty-blonde Alice and Alice’s 12-year-old brother Edward (Dusty). Edward’s nickname is Dusty because he swore loads when he was small. This story is about adolescent, school, experiencing things for the first time and growing up. Each chapter tells Bella and Edward’s journey of their friendship and falling in love, despite the burdens of Edward’s drug use.

This Bella is different from all the ones I read in other fanfictions. She’s very girly. She enjoys wearing dresses, heels and sandals, and likes girly things. Alice on the other hand is the reverse of Bella. Alice is a skater girl, she’s foul-mouthed (like Edward) and hates dresses. These two become inseparable BFFs.

The guys, Garrett and Brady seem to be into Bella for some odd reason, I don’t know why. I don’t know why Brady, a graduated senior would be into a 14 year old girl – explain this to me! What’s so fantastic about strawberry blonde Bella, I do wonder! This is obviously a ‘Mary Sue’ element. The only thing I gathered is that she is pretty (FACT: the main female character seems to be always pretty). She’s not innocent as she makes out to be but that's the only explanation I got.

The most use words in this story are baby, little princess or Bliss-baby. All very annoying, but it is what it is. I don’t know how many times I need to hear the word strawberry blonde or my ‘red-blonde ends.’ Okay, I know you have this redonkulous fabulous hair colour but do I need reminding? The strawberry blonde hair colour isn’t mentioned much in books but you don’t need to be going on about it chapter after chapter. Its like would you just SHUT UP ABOUT YOUR STUPID HAIR COLOUR. I GET IT. This is one of the most annoying things about stories written in first person. You have to endure the character bragging about something, in Bella’s case: her hair.

Out of all the Twilight fanfictions I’ve read, Edward and Bella have the ultimate annoyingly angsty relationship. If you want to read angsty stuff, then this is the one!

They can’t seem to be happy with each other because there is always something getting in the way. Edward has the drugs affecting him, so he always leaves going to Dimitri’s probably and getting high. Bella just takes all of Edward bullshit. What annoyed me about Bella was that I felt like she led Garrett on and its so obvious that she did. Sometimes it was to get back at Edward and sometimes it seems like she did like him but she said she couldn’t love anyone but Edward. Garrett seems like a nice. I don’t know why Bella began referring him to ‘my skater boy’ because he isn’t ‘her skater boy’ and he never will be. I wished Bella stood up for herself and not to put up with Edward’s sh!t. Obviously that wasn’t going to happen; she just always forgave him, which was annoying. I don't think Bella really helped Edward with his cocaine habit. Come on now, Edward clearly has a problem! Why isn't anyone doing anything? Esme and Carlisle give Edward and Alice too much freedom.

That chapter where it’s “Isabella’s Precious Heart” talking was absolutely so stupid. Out of all the fanfiction stories I’ve read, this must have been the stupidest chapter! I mean seriously! What so our hearts can talk and have a mind of its own?! I skimmed that because it was completely pointless.

I’ve always loved Alice in any fanfiction but this Alice just got annoying in the end. I just wanted her to shut the f*** up. She was a spoiled brat and I really did not like her. I like that she’s a tomboy but she was just irritating. She and Bella were once BFFs and by the end of the story, they fall apart. They both weren’t completely honest with each other.

Everything about this fanfiction was so long and repetitive, especially in their POVs when they keep repeatedly telling me what ‘love is’. Love is blah, blah, BLAH. This isn’t just once, it tells me every other chapter, TELLING ME THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. These two characters think the same. Show me, don’t tell me! The thing is the author would show me and then tell me afterwards. Its not enough to show me but you have the need to tell me too.

Despite how frustrated I was with this story, I tell you what I did like: I liked reading the development between Edward and Bella when they went from kids to young teenagers. They are always together, especially when she sneaks into his room. After time, they realise their feelings gradually. The first kiss scene was sweet and adorable; it was the perfect moment. The love scenes was written nicely and very well done. What an understatement when the author says: “This is not your typical fanfiction,” but the thing is that IT IS SO TYPICAL. I usually like reading angst but the angst in this just really bothered me.

I don’t know what happened to Edward at the end of this story. Basically he and Bella were going to run off together in true ‘Romeo and Juliet’ style, but that didn’t happen because Edward just never responded in a few days and when he returned (again for the 100th time) he said that Bella is not coming with him breaking her heart once again (I lost count). All hell breaks loose, as everyone finds out what a deceitful liar Bella truly is and now Edward and Bella aren’t together anymore. WOOHOO.

There might be a part II to this fanfiction because it does not feel finished. The author ended it with Bella picking up her phone and saying “Hello” and that was it! It was probably Edward on the other end. I won't be reading the next one if there is one because I don’t care what happens in the end. Edward and Bella could jump off a cliff for all I care. I did not care about these characters at all. This is ironic, but the only character I liked was Garrett. I don't think Victoria, Kim, Charlotte and (I forgot the other one) was as bad as Bella made them out to be. They weren't horrible, mean or anything like that. Bella just seemed to be jealous of Victoria all the time because of her looks and self-confidence.

A lot of readers really love this fanfiction and have said it is the best book they have ever read (I mean really?!) Why do people love this story? This story wasn’t even that great like its made out to be in my opinion. I can't tell you how I disliked this story.

I rated this 3 stars on Goodreads, but it should really be 2 stars!

Bottom Line: I would not recommend this if angst annoys you but if you love any angsty relationships good or bad, then you should definitely read it. As for me? This took bloody 2 weeks to finish! I digress. This could put me off reading fanfiction for life! I can’t read fanfiction like I use to 4 years ago.

Side Note: There was this author (shames the name author) called Shey Stahl who plagiarized this fanfiction. What. A. Scandal. She got found out and the plagiarized story ‘For the Summer’ has been pulled off amazon. This makes me think...why would a well-known self-published author want to plagiarize? FANFICTION. REALLY?! Why would she want to steal this story? Seriously Shey, don’t steal from the fanfiction community. Don't steal at all!

Rant over.
