  • Milo Baughman Drum Coffee Table
    dwr.com
“Furniture that is too obviously designed,” said Milo Baughman, “is very interesting, but too often belongs only in museums.” While we could certainly see his Drum Table (1970s) in a museum, it would earn its place there for its simplicity and lack of unnecessary ornamentation. Distilling the idea of an occasional table to its simplest form, Baughman’s cylindrical design draws you in with its smoothness and warmth. It features seams that are painstakingly welded, ground and polished by hand until they blend in as much as possible. Once constructed, Drum is coated with bronze, oxidized and hand-relieved to give it a unique patina, eschewing the sterility of machine-made pieces. It includes leveling floor glides to compensate for uneven surfaces. Made in U.S.A.

  • Menu A/S Turning Table
    shophorne.com
At Menu we are obsessed with clever solutions for modern living. We want to make beautiful objects for everyday use, whether that’s an indispensable item of kitchen equipment, a clever floating shelf or a beautiful vase that adds the finishing touch to your living space.Wherever we can, we work locally with craftspeople around the world, preserving skills while creating the best modern design. German designer Theresa Arns was experimenting with ways of combining a table and storage when she stumbled upon the idea of a lid that opens by rotating it around one of the legs. The result is elegant, unpretentious and utterly addictive (show it to guests and they will be opening and shutting Turning Table for hours). “My design is quite functional,” says Theresa. “But I also think it’s important that the objects we surround ourselves with have a warm and poetic part.”
  • Terence Woodgate Unison Square Coffee Table
    dwr.com
British industrial designer Terence Woodgate is a Royal Designer for Industry (RDI), the highest honor awarded to designers in the U.K. He’s known for his obsessive attention to detail, which is beautifully illustrated in his Unison Table (2011). Visually simple, this two-tier table is actually quite complex in its design. In place of fasteners and external hardware, Unison uses a lower shelf as the structural component to hold the legs firmly in position. Its glass tabletop rests on neoprene pads, and Woodgate had to be sure to get the weight just right to make the pads grip sufficiently. Visible through the tabletop is the lower shelf with exquisitely cut half-sawn wood veneer. Made in Slovenia.
  • Isamu Noguchi Noguchi® Rudder Table
    dwr.com
Following his apprenticeship with the legendary Constantin Brancusi, sculptor Isamu Noguchi began to experiment in environmental design, theatrical sets and, eventually, product design. He created his first furniture prototypes for Herman Miller in 1942, later going on to work with other companies such as Steuben and Zenith. His Rudder Table (1949) features an asymmetrical form composed of mixed: warm wood and sleek chromed steel. The shape of its top – the same as that of the renowned Noguchi® Table – and the combination of metal and wood legs are true to Noguchi’s original design. At a quick glance, the subtle metal hairpin legs almost disappear, suggesting the top rests solely on the rudder-shaped wood leg, imparting airiness to the whole. This is the authentic Noguchi Rudder Table produced by Herman Miller. Ships flat; simple assembly required. Made in U.S.A.
