That was the bittersweet plot twist in the love story of Ned, the pie-maker with a unique gift, and Chuck, the childhood sweetheart, beekeeper and multi-lingual cheese aficionado.

Ironically, it was when Chuck finally took a chance at living that she actually lost it--her life, I mean. On her first ever trip, the lone tourist named Charlotte Charles, known to many including Ned as Chuck, was made very dead by the cold, calculating grip of one man. In the funeral home, she was made undead by the gentle touch of another--the aforementioned Ned. Ned was her prince charming in an apron (not that he was wearing one at the funeral).

She had been his first kiss and he hers. In that 60 seconds, they agreed he also would be her last, but…

"What if you didn't have to be dead?" he queried.

"Well, that would be preferrable," she teased.

But, it was no laughing matter; Ned was deadly serious…and simultaneously giddy, thoughtful yet completely rash and irrational. In other words, in love. Having touched Chuck's cheek once, the pie-maker could not bring himself to touch or kiss the girl named Chuck…again, forever.

A victim of murder, reported as dead and buried, Chuck had a chance at a fresh start but her new life also necessitated a certain level of discretion, especially with her killer still unidentified. Not quite cloak and dagger (more like cloak and pie server), her alive again condition required a wardrobe complete with coats with high collars, numerous identity hiding hats and disguising yet still fashionable sunglasses.

The lovelorn Ned and his lovely undead girlfriend Chuck with her vintage-centric style served up a big slice of inspiration for this set. At once classic yet just a bit kitschy. Elegant yet playful.

That very story--told in 22 episodes, across 2 seasons, receiving 17 Emmy nominations and 8 awards--garnered lots of loyal fans..including many well outside the town of Coeur de Coeurs.

Dedicated to Marble and Chestnut.
