The ethnic-inspired footstool Kermel is made up of an ethnic patchwork of artisan patterned rugs, named Kilim. Kilim is an ancient tradition of weaving rugs and one of the oldest known forms of tapestry art, still practiced from North-Africa, the Balkan and the Middle East. Knotted from wool and cotton, the artisan rugs are known for showing a rich ethnic pattern that is identical on both sides. We source our artisan Kilim in North-Africa, where the Berber people or Imazighen hand-knot the rugs in ancient traditional print patterns, this makes for each of the cushions to be unique pieces. Jutta’s patchwork combines several of these patterns to form a standout cushion that introduces authentic folk tradition into modern interior design.
