    dwr.com
Son of a draftsman and a homemaker, Bernard-Albin Gras was born in Saint-Raphaël, France, in 1886. He would become an engineer and tireless inventor who registered dozens of patents, including one for Lampe Gras (1921). A product of Gras’ passion to improve working conditions for hundreds of laborers in ordinary machine shops, research laboratories and design studios in the 1920s, this mobile lighting solution is capable of meeting the needs of many different users. The architect Le Corbusier seized upon the design, which satisfied the demands of his ideology about the perfect object-tool: a form reduced to its pure function, free of superfluous ornament. Corbu furnished his design offices and architectural projects with Lampes Gras, and other early adopters included Eileen Gray, Man Ray and Robert Mallet-Stevens. The cast steel frames are made without screws or welded joints; all parts contribute to utmost effectiveness of the whole.Bulb (not included): LED, CFL or incandescent; E12 base; 40W max. RBW has quickly gained recognition for its cerebral designs, which emphasize the exploration of form, reinventing familiar objects with basic. • Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina Tolomeo Mega Floor Lamp, Black Finish
    dwr.com
Rather than develop his career within a single design discipline – be it industrial, furniture, interior, lighting or architectural design – Michele De Lucchi chose to move freely among them all, creating door pulls for Valli Colombo, laptops for Olivetti and tape dispensers for Pelikan while designing banks in Germany and apartment buildings in Japan. His Tolomeo Lamp (1987), designed in collaboration with Artemide’s R&D department head Giancarlo Fassina, was honored with the Compasso d’Oro Award in 1989, earning worldwide recognition for its perfect marriage of design and engineering. Since then, the Tolomeo Collection has grown to include an assortment of sizes and styles, including the Mega Floor Lamp launched in 2002. The Tolomeo Lamp begins with a heavy base and ends with a pivoting shade. In between, the multi-armed body is fully adjustable, with steel tension cables providing infinite positions in which the lamp can be held. Bulb (not included): incandescent 150W/E26/G40. UL Listed. • Greta Grossman Grasshopper Floor Lamp
    dwr.com
Swedish architect and designer Greta Magnusson Grossman broke through gender barriers to embark on a prolific career. In 1940, she and her husband immigrated to the United States, where her approach to Swedish modernism struck a chord with single, professional women who felt that she understood their needs and sensibilities. She opened a store on Rodeo Drive, where her furniture and accessories quickly drew the attention of clients such as Greta Garbo, Joan Fontaine and Gracie Allen. In the 1950s, she founded her architecture office and designed 14 homes – 13 in California and one in Sweden – each one a showcase for her quietly dramatic approach. The Grasshopper Lamp (1948) has a lithe frame and an elongated conical shade that rotates to direct light where needed. This is an authentic Grossman lamp, produced to the designer’s original specifications. Bulb (not included): incandescent 40W/E12 or comparable CFL. Made in Denmark. Matte White is a.
  • Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni Arco Floor Lamp
    dwr.com
As a lecturer at the Politecnico di Milano in the 1980s, Achille Castiglioni would implore his students to "Start from scratch. Stick to common sense. Know your goals and means." He clearly took his own advice when he, with his elder brother Pier Giacomo, designed the dramatic Arco Floor Lamp (1962). Inspired by a streetlight, the Arco cleverly provides overhead lighting without requiring ceiling suspension, its polished shade extending nearly seven feet to accommodate a dining table or sofa beneath the light source. Aware that the 78-pound lamp would be difficult to move, the designers smartly placed a hole in the base to accommodate a broom handle. They also gave the Arco an adjustable arc and swiveling shade for precise lighting control. As groovy as it is elegant, the lamp's iconic status was sealed when it appeared on screen alongside Sean Connery in Diamonds Are Forever and in The Italian Job (apropos). The Arco is included in the permanent collection at MoMA. Bulb (included): incandescent 100W/120V/A21SB. Made in Italy.

Groggy fits well next to a chair or a sofa and allows the user plenty of space for the arm. Groggy is a new addition to Tom Stepps’ Blueman Collection of lighting and furniture designs. The Blueman Collection consists of, and expands, the ideas and products that Tom Stepp dreams of having in his own home, and which he therefore creates for himself.
