I've been haunted all weekend by the pictures of the earthquake and tsunami, and send my prayers for the courageous people of Japan. It's taken me several days to be able to make this set, since this has been very personal for me. The daughter of a beloved friend is living in Japan for a year, in the city of Fukushima-shi which is south of Sendai and near where the nuclear reactors are. Thankfully she is safe but food and water are scarce and there have been aftershocks ranging from 5 to 6.8. Ironically, my friend has been my role model and moral support since MY daughter was supposed to spend a semester studying in Japan starting this month. Had she not been so sick this past year, she would have been flying into Tokyo the day of the earthquake. I haven't heard anything about her classmates and pray that they were still in flight and got diverted before landing in Japan. Because of her health issues, Rachel's trip had been postponed even before the earthquake, but now I'm in favor of her spending a semester at the Japanese pavilion in Disney World if she is still determined to have a Japanese experience. My love and good wishes go out to all the people of Japan and everyone in the other countries who have been touched by all the natural disasters recently.
The background photo of this set is the beautiful city of Fukushima-shi before the earthquake.
