  • Tripod Stool By Manulution
    2modern.com
Stool with structure made completely in solid wood. Beautiful and practical, this stool is a perfect accessory for the living room and the bedroom. Tripod owes its striking visual appearance to the delicate process of carefully selecting three pieces of wood with interesting grain structure and matching them to form a unified triangular pattern. Manulution buys walnut and cherry logs from private orchards throughout Bosnia. These are trunks of old trees, which are cut when their productive life of fruit bearing is over and need to be replaced by new ones. They are bought directly from villagers, often in very small quantities, whenever it is offered. Other hardwoods (i.e. maple, oak, elm, and ash) are sourced from public forestry companies, the management of which has vastly improved in recent years. The forest certification process has started and several forests are FSC certified. There is also concrete evidence that forests are exploited sustainably. A recent forestry inventory (financed and supported by the World Bank) has shown that Bosnia's forest volume has increased significantly since the last inventory was conducted in 1960s. In fact, the study indicated that Bosnia, ostensibly, has more trees per capita than any country in Europe or Central Asia.

Stool is a medium warm grey; grasses will vary slightly but are a lighter cream -- each one is absolutely unique. Group with the Medium and Low Round Concrete Stools for a visually interesting cocktail setting, or use as end tables with any lounge piece. Suitable for indoor/ outdoor use. • Artek Aalto stool 60, painted seat
    finnishdesignshop.com
The Stool 60 turns 80 this year. To celebrate that, Artek has made an anniversary edition. The anniversary colours are borrowed directly from Aalto’s Paimio Sanatorium: the yellow of the floors, the green of the walls, and the orange, white and black of the furniture. The stool designed by Alvar Aalto is one of the icons of furniture design. Aalto’s three leg stool was presented for the first time in 1933 and it was a sensation in the design world of his time. The stool’s L-leg was revolutionary for its technical realization and it represented a boost for all the modern Scandinavian design. To bend the leg of Aalto’s stool, the same technique is still in use: a piece of straight, solid birch was sawn open at the end in the direction of the fibres, forming the shape of a fan. Thin pieces of plywood were then glued in the grooves. This structure makes it possible to bend the wood by heating or steaming the desired corner/angle and when dry it will have a very strong texture that can be easily joined to the seat of the stool. Aalto stool is still today a beautiful genious product, whose simple shape will always be modern. Stools are perfect extra chairs, easily stackable as a beautiful tower when they are not needed. At the same time, the stool can be used as a small table, for instance next to an armchair or in the bedroom. Manufacturer: Artek. Design: Alvar Aalto. Size: Width 38 cm, height 44 cm. Material: Birch. Color: Legs birch, seat black, white, orange, yellow or green.
