FAMILY TREES
In her vision, my great grandmother Lerona was introduced to individuals in a vast assemblage of the spirits of deceased French people. She wrote: “After the introductions, father told me those people were all converted and were looking to me to provide a way for their deliverance.”

At this point Lerona’s account of her vision gets complicated. She’s used Mormon insider language. When she wrote the term ‘converted’ Lerona meant that the spirits of her deceased ancestors were taught and accepted the full gospel of Jesus Christ in the Spirit World, and now they wanted to be baptized. Of course, when they were alive, Lerona’s ancestors were Christians – both Catholics and Protestants (Huguenots). They had been baptized – but not in the proper way and not with the proper authority. Now that they were dead, how could they be baptized? Ah! Mormon’s baptize their deceased ancestors in their temples. How could Lerona help? Lerona would be a savior to her people by researching and producing family genealogical records [family trees] and delivering them to a temple so their baptisms could be performed vicariously.

[I still have more explaining, but for now, I’ll play with images of Lerona and her family trees – way too literally!]
