  • Normann Copenhagen Onkel 2-Seater Sofa
    shophorne.com
Onkel (the Danish word for Uncle) is a sofa that combines the simplicity of modern forms with the soft curves of the olden days. The outer shell of the sofa has a firm expression, while the cushions are comfortable and inviting. The choice of materials adds a sensuous side with its characteristically Nordic connotations. The Onkel sofa consists of a simple, upholstered frame with cushions. The inspiration for the cushions derives from the more bombastic upholstered sofas typical of the pre-1950s era. To emphasize the merger of two completely different worlds of expression, the back cushion has been elegantly encapsulated by the frame. The materials in Onkel create a dynamic effect with its plain-colored frame, mottled back and cushion and color-lacquered under frame. All in the same color shade. This is what makes Onkel stand as a complete unit. Simon Legald explains: “As a designer, I am curious about how the materials work together with the idea. Onkel is a sofa that was derived of a dialog between craftsmanship and industry. In creating Onkel, I have revived old craftsmanship techniques and used them in a new context. In doing this, the details add character to Onkel.” Onkel is a recognizable Scandinavian design and is available in three colors both as a two or three-seater sofa upholstered with fabrics from Gabriel.

  • Normann Copenhagen Swell Sofa 2-Seater
    shophorne.com
Swell is a minimalistic furniture collection with a playful, light-hearted feel designed by the Swedish designer Jonas Wagell. Modular sofas and armchairs are now available, open up for even more possibilities and combinations in interior design. The Scandinavian simplicity of the design is accentuated by a stringent design without unnecessary details. In spite of this, Swell oozes with character and personality and its soft, curved shapes make it both inviting and provide a fantastic sitting comfort. The name Swell is a reference to rising bread with its full shape, consisting of a robust padded back and seat and two curvy armrests. The stitching on the back and the seats divides the sofas into sections and completes the feel. Jonas Wagell says: ”I've always been fascinated by minimalism, but I like to add a warm and personal touch to the products. I have taken the aesthetic and practical qualities that I prefer in furniture for the living room as a reference point, and in this way, Swell very much reflects my own personal taste and style”. Swell is available in a wide range of colors. The range makes it easy to find a sofa suitable for any decor by encompassing everything from neutral grey and brownish tones to deep and tranquil shades of blue and purple as well as energetic and bright yellow, green and red and a classic black. • Flemming Busk Twilight Sleeper Sofa
    dwr.com
Winner of a furniture competition at the Århus School of Architecture in Denmark in 1999, Flemming Busk’s Twilight Sleep Sofa distills the concept of a convertible couch to a simple cylinder and rectangle. A compact and nicely scaled sofa, the bolster pillow adjusts to three different positions for customized seat depths (19.5"/23"/34.75") and lumbar support. The Twilight offers further options by converting into a daybed, queen-size bed or two twin beds. To transform Twilight into a comfortable sleeping space for two, simply move the bolster out of the way and place the top cushion on the floor. The two mattresses, when pushed together are larger than a queen-size bed, but not quite as large as a king. For sheets, use two twin extra-long fitted sheets with coordinating flat sheets or one king-size flat sheet. A great small space solution, Twilight turns any room into a guest room. The slipcover is removable for cleaning and is welted at the seams with contrast piping for a clean aesthetic. Casters on the rear legs make for easy mobility. Made in Denmark.

The Baker Sofa was created in 1951, the year that Juhl brought international recognition to Danish design with his U.S. debut in the "Good Design" exhibit in Chicago and at MoMA in New York. This was also the year when he was the architect appointed to represent Denmark in creating the interior of a meeting hall at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Oh, and did we mention he had just turned 39? In looking at his Baker Sofa, we can see how Juhl was influenced by modern sculpture, like the moving mobiles created by Alexander Calder. Another recognizable Juhl characteristic is how one element appears suspended over another, with a space in between. In doing this with the back of this sofa, he gave the Baker a surprising visual lightness for a sofa of this size. (Imagine how different it would look as one solid piece.) This original is an authentic, fully licensed product of Onecollection, House of Finn Juhl™. Made in Denmark.

  • Stephen Kenn Inheritance Sofa - Black Wool & Brass
    shophorne.com
Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The collection was the result of an exploration of how furniture is constructed, and then a desire to distill the process down to the barest bones. Likening the process of furniture construction to the way the human body is constructed, the frame, belts, and cushions became the bones, muscles, and skin of each piece. Soft black wool cushion covers, black webbing with black leather belts, on a light brass plated frame.
