  • Stephen Kenn Inheritance Armchair - Black Canvas & Blackened Steel
    shophorne.com
Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The collection was the result of an exploration of how furniture is constructed, and then a desire to distill the process down to the barest bones. Likening the process of furniture construction to the way the human body is constructed, the frame, belts, and cushions became the bones, muscles, and skin of each piece. Black canvas cushion covers, black cotton webbing and leather belts interwoven atop a blackened steel frame. Made in Los Angeles, the collection is inspired by the characteristic principles of Soviet Modernism and bold interpretations of Brutalist Architecture through the simplification of form, receptive angular geometries and functional design.

  • Normann Copenhagen Swell Armchair
    shophorne.com
Swell is a minimalistic furniture collection with a playful, light-hearted feel designed by the Swedish designer Jonas Wagell. Modular sofas and armchairs are now available, open up for even more possibilities and combinations in interior design. The Scandinavian simplicity of the design is accentuated by a stringent design without unnecessary details. In spite of this, Swell oozes with character and personality and its soft, curved shapes make it both inviting and provide a fantastic sitting comfort. The name Swell is a reference to rising bread with its full shape, consisting of a robust padded back and seat and two curvy armrests. The stitching on the back and the seats divides the sofas into sections and completes the feel. Jonas Wagell says: ”I've always been fascinated by minimalism, but I like to add a warm and personal touch to the products. I have taken the aesthetic and practical qualities that I prefer in furniture for the living room as a reference point, and in this way, Swell very much reflects my own personal taste and style”. Swell is available in a wide range of colors. The range makes it easy to find a sofa suitable for any decor by encompassing everything from neutral grey and brownish tones to deep and tranquil shades of blue and purple as well as energetic and bright yellow, green and red and a classic black. Shortly before Finn Juhl became a world-renowned name, he was a self-taught furniture designer and trained architect who had just opened his own office. Working in collaboration with master cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, the pair was the buzz of the 1945 Cabinetmakers’ Guild exhibition with their expressive, sculptural pieces. One such item was the Model 45 Armchair (1945), which broke from tradition by freeing the upholstered areas from the wood frame. With the Model 45, Juhl refined the type of easy chair that he had been working on for many years; creating the type of elegant, tantalizing expression for which this designer is still without rival. This original is an authentic, fully licensed product of Onecollection, House of Finn Juhl™. Made in Denmark. Finn Juhl made his U.S. debut in 1951, at the “Good Design” exhibit in Chicago and at MoMA in New York. When Juhl was 39, he was the architect appointed to represent Denmark in creating the interior of a meeting hall at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
  • Fritz Hansen - Serie 7 Stuhl monochromatic
    connox.com
Series 7 – monochromatic from head to toes The Series 7, which was designed by Arne Jacobsen 1955, is the admiral of the Fritz Hansen collection. The chair still convinces with its withdrawing appearance and the functional versatility. Fritz Hansen presents the classic chair with new colours by the artist Tal R with suitable bases in 2015 in the event of the 60 th birthday of the designer. Lacquered or painted The seat of pressed veneer of the Series 7 is available in two variants as monochromatic edition. One of them with a varnished seat out of ash wood and another one lacquered. The difference: The painted edition keeps the typical and individual wooden grain of the seat visible, which emphasizes the natural appearance and silhouette of the Series 7. The lacquered models are special with their silky and uniform seat. The wooden grain is covered with an opaque colour-layer in this case. Both editions – the painted and the lacquered monochromatic models – are available in the classic non-colours black and white as well as in two tones of the range of colours of the artist Tal R: Chavalier Irange, an Orient influenced orange tone which is the most exclusive of the new colours according to Tal R, and in Trieste Blue, a mix of violet and blue. Lacquered from head to toes The monochromatic model convinces with its unitary tranquilizing appearance. The classic four legged base appears in the same colour as the seat. The two elements of the chair become a harmonic unity this way. The Series 7 by Arne Jacobsen deserves to belong to the classic chairs of furniture history, since the different modules, colours and bases offer many individual configurations, adapted to everyone. The chair is available in further colours and with different bases and cushions in here on demand. Also in our blog: The Fritz Hansen Series 7 Chair: Monochrome design

It features large feather cushions that are notable for their depth, the back has a line of sewn in pulls, lending the armchair the appearance of a buttoned back, without the actual buttons. Each leg stands on nylon gliders, compatible to almost every ground. The round design of the armchair is simple, elegant and pleasant for the eye and the body. A footstool is also available for the Era collection, allowing ample opportunity for comfortable relaxation and rest for the feet. Choose between two lovely wool textiles with a vivid feel and beautiful structures, or soft, durable leather in a vast number of colors. Simon Legald says: ”It took a while to get the proportions and the interaction between the soft curves and straight lines on the shells just right. It was crucial that the upholstering and stitching were carried out with the utmost precision. I wanted to create individual chairs where each one had its own character. I did this through the variations of the high and low versions, and by the different frames available for the chair. For example, the wooden frames are flat and add warmth while the slimmer, round steel and chrome frames give a more industrial feel. Finally, the frame for the rocking chair is a slightly unexpected and playful choice for a lounge chair.” Priced with Gabriel Breeze Fusion upholstery-other materials available.
