So I know this is not a popular opinion but I was very lukewarm about American Hustle. All a bit wannabe Scorsese in my opinion. But the clothes were fab. Totally over-the-top gorgeous, but those plunging necklines are only for the very brave, the very toned and those who don't feel the cold (ie not me.) The colours and the shapes (fitted shirts, A-line skirts, wrap dresses) reminded me so much of photos of my ma and her sisters, who looked pretty darned wonderful in the 70s. Ma still has magazines from that era with all those great styles from Diane von Furstenberg, Halston and Chloe. And what did I find on the clearance rail of T K Maxx? A Chloe tie print silk shirt dress for £100 (reduced from about £1200). OK, so not dirt cheap but it fitted perfectly and will be worn to shreds this summer. I felt like Faye Dunaway or Jane Fonda or one of Charlie's Angels. I'm now looking on eBay for the ideal 70s shoes to accompany it. There are some great 70s-style versions from Chloe and Marni at the Outnet, but I also really liked this pair from Sarah Jessica Parker's collection for Nordstrom which is just the right combination of brash and ladylike.
