"Only two in a boat! Two in a boat!" the old italian gentleman shouted with a thick accent. He frowned at the boat I was sitting in with two other girls and pulled me out. The girls gave me sad looks and resumed their conversation. Feeling frustrated I knew I had to find a new partner. I glanced around and spotted a pretty indian girl being shooed out of her boat too.
"Hey I'm Raven. I was kicked out of my boat too, so do you want to be partners?" Blahh I bet I sounded really geeky. At this rate I bet she'd never agree to be my partner.
"Hey Raven, I'm Sasha. Thanks I'd love to ride with you." Well, well I was pleasantly surprised. We stepped into an open boat, helping each other in. The boat teetered violently to the right inches away from the murky water, and we glanced at each other with fright. Luckily the boat steadied itself.
"I thought for sure that we were going to be soaked!" I said.
"Wow I know right. We just have to be a lot more careful, and not put too much weight on one side! "
"Have you ridden in one of these before? I sure haven't, and I'm not sure if I will ever again!"
"Well I'd like to say I have, but that would be lying, so I'm just as inexperienced as you are," Sasha replied with a laugh.
We laughed, and talked a bit more about friends, classes, art, etc. Our chatter eventually ceased, so we could take in the beautiful sights of Venice. I took the nice silence as an excuse to do a quick sketch of another gondola reflecting in the glittering water stationed at a nearby stone wall. It was a great sketch, and it looked like one of Claude Monet's. He would be proud. Tomorrow I'd show it to my drawing professor.
