He runs under the tree with the colored bottles dangling at the end of each limb. “They
think evil spirits live in the trees,” she had told him. “And on the way out of the tree the spirit
gets trapped inside the bottle.” She ran her hand through his hair. “Do you believe that?”
He squinted up at her that day and shrugged.
She tapped one of the pretty green bottles. “Evil’s not inside a bottle,” she said. “It’s too
big for that.”
