Graphic statement. Print expresses a feeling that's both bold and vulnerable, floating with a sense of urgency in black on white. One afternoon, artist Matthew Heller found unlikely inspiration in a lonely piece of plywood that had been weathering outside his Santa Monica studio. After painting the wood in strokes of white, he stenciled freeform letters with masking tape and brushed them with black acrylic to express his thought simply and directly. As the piece evolved, Heller reveals "it became so much more. I see it as a reminder to live your life so as to be unforgettable." The original artwork is digitally replicated here on canvas. Mathew heller. Artist describes his style as minimal, but with heart. Based in LA, Heller is inspired by art and design that is honest, and more smart than clever. He strives to constantly invent and explore, whether by expressing an original thought or using traditional materials in an unexpected way. His work is a reflection of his own feelings and experiences, which he shares freely, allowing others to connect on an emotional level. Punning on the word "dash," Heather LaHaise incorporates broad brushstrokes of grey in her depiction of a rabbit poised to dash out of sight. Painting with uneven swipes of color, textural marks and a carefully rendered rabbit, she conveys the animal's quick and curious ways in a composition that bridges abstraction and realism. The artist's original acrylic on linen painting is captured in all its subtlety in a giclée reproduction on paper, framed in matte white wood.
  • Crate & Barrel Stacks 12 Print

This intriguing drawing is part of series Julie S. Graham created in response to the view outside her studio. Maintaining a studio in an industrial area of Boston, Graham became fascinated with the contrast between the organic forms found in nature and the geometric order of the manmade environment. In her delicately sketched and subtly colored drawing, she juxtaposes orderly stacks of upright rectangles and squares rectangles with a spindly stretch of fine lines, grass-like hatchings and a spill of horizontal bands. Each giclée reproduction of the original is presented in a double white mat and framed in a clean matte black wood frame.
