The large Semi pendant is a unique lamp, based on two quarter-circles put together, back-to-back. Architects Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup were students at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts when they co-designed their first lamp. Craving pure, crisp geometric shapes in a design world dominated by soft organic forms, they created the Semi Pendant (1968) by placing two circles back to back, producing an elegant shape in the negative space between with a diameter matching that of each circle. Timeless by design, it just has that simplicity of form, which cannot be slotted into any single style period,ë says Bonderup. It's not surprising that Semi took first prize in the School of Architecture's 1968 design competition with its satisfying, perfectly balanced proportions. Gubi Turbo Pendant
Louis Weisdorf's Turbo Pendant, was created in 1965. It was first put into production in 1967 and has achieved great success over the years. It illustrates design at its best: it is simple in form, yet complex in structure and combines a sense of airiness and strength in a beautiful sculptural whole. The inspiration for the lamp is the lightness of the Japanese rice paper lamp but in a more durable and sturdy version. The outer curve of the lamp is made of 12 similar aluminum spiral lamellae that form a flower-like globe that shields the light of the bulb, and the vertical lamellae prevent gathering of dust. The Turbo Pendant is Louis Weisdorf's first product for Gubi.
