In 1955 Barba Corsini renovated the loft space within Antonio Gaudi's famous building "La Pedrera" in Barcelona, transforming it from a simple laundry room and storage area into 13 modern duplex apartments. Corsini used a series of parabolic arcs to create individual rooms and give an illusion of space and height. To reinforce the modernist style of the rooms, Corsini decorated the apartments with furniture and lighting that he designed himself, including the perforated metal lighting line know as the Pedrera series. The PD-1 H2O lamp is perfect beside the bed or put it on a credenza or side-table near the couch. Illuminates with a magical glow. The lamp was first put into production in 1967 and has achieved great success over the years. It illustrates design at its best: it is simple in form, yet complex in structure and combines a sense of airiness and strength in a beautiful sculptural whole. The inspiration for the lamp is the lightness of the Chinese paper lamp but in a more durable and sturdy version. The outer curve of the lamp is made of 12 aluminum spiral lamellae that form a flower-like globe that shields the light of the bulb and the vertical lamellae prevent gathering of dust. DIMENSIONS: Diam. 14.1".

Classic-simple in an office or colourful in a children’s room or in the kitchen – the Semi pendant lamp from Gubi fits in every coherence with its curved design. It also has an impressive effect in a group. The Semi pendant lamp has been a reaction to the trend of comfort in Danish design in the 1960es. The designers Claus Bonderup and Torsten Throup answered with contraire clear lines and geometric forms with their lamp. The Semi lamp, which is produced by the Danish company Gubi, became world famous for the swung enameled metal. Its form is based on a fourth-sphere. The shade of the lamp is composed of two fourth-spheres – which is why it has the name “Semi”. Not for nothing the designers used geometric forms, such as spheres, triangles and squares as greatest inspiration source. Initially the pendant lamp Semi has been designed for an industrial competition at the Danish architecture school in 1968. Both designers Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup won the competition for the unique design of their lamp. The stylish Semi pendant soon became a design classic afterwards. It already interacted perfectly with the organic furniture of Verner Panton and Eero Saarinen in that time, and it still suits public rooms without a doubt. The Semi pendant lamp is available in three different sizes and colours.

Louis Weisdorf already designed the Turbo pendant lamp in 1965. It shows design as it should be: A simple form and still with complex structures for weightlessness and strength make up the Turbo. The geometric shapes seem to be moving and do therefore remind us of the turbines of a turbo charger. Which is the reason for the name of the Gubi pendant lamp: Twelve identic aluminium spirals form the iconic exterior. Weisdorf was also inspired by Japanese rice paper lamps that give the shapely weightlessness to the Turbo. The interlaced lamellae make up a light sculpture, which shield the illuminant and only free indirect light through the openings. That’s how the Gubi Turbo pendant lamp serves as illuminant for living rooms and bedrooms with its different light facets. Gubi produces the Turbo pendant lamp by Louis Weisdorf in two sizes (diameter 36 cm and 62 cm).

Antoni Gaudi, who originally designed ""La Pedrera"", is generally consideredthegreat master of Spanish Modernism but his unique body of work cannot be defined by any single style or simple classification. Corsini was a great admirer of Finnish architecture, which he believed to be the finest in Europe on account of the powerful simplicity of the designs. 'Powerful simplicity' is indeed an apt description of Corsini's personal design style, as represented by the Pedrera series. The Pedrera lamps are both modern and classic. Some of the lamps were designed by Barba Corsini, others in association with his protegé, Joaquim Ruiz Millet. One lamp, the ANA pendant, was designed by Ruiz Millet as a tribute to Corsini." Gubi Turbo Pendant by Louis Weisdorf
Designed in 1965 the Turbo pendant is simple in form, yet complex in structure and combines a sense of airiness and strength in a beautiful sculptural whole. The inspiration for the lamp is the lightness of the Japanese rice paper lamp but in a more durable and sturdy version. Made of 12 equal aluminium slats, spirally twisted and mounted together, to give the spherical shape of a round ball that shields the light of the bulb. All the surfaces are powder coated in matt white - the vertical strips allow minimal gathering of dust. As an alternative to the canopy a ceiling hook is included. Available in two sizes. Dimensions: Small D360mm x H360mm. Large D620m x H620mm. Materials: Powder coated aluminium. Fabric cord. Light Source: 1 x E27 Halogen lamp 57W (max 70W)

    Gubi - Semi Semi Pendant
The Semi lamp was designed in 1968 as a product of the creative partnership between two architecture students, Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. Reacting against the 'cosy era' that was dominating Denmark at the time, Bonderup and Thorup wanted to create a lamp that incorporated sharp, clean lines and a geometric shape. Their design was submitted for a competition at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture and won first prize. Semi is a unique pendant lamp, based on two quarter-circles put together, back-to-back. With its its distinctive arch-shaped, enamelled metal shade, lightness of form and unique, timeless design, the elegant Semi lamp achieved great success in the 1980's and became, at that time, the best-selling Danish design, gaining worldwide recognition and iconic status. In detail: Type : Pendant. Colour : White. Material : Enamelled metal - Cable surrounded by fabric. Dimensions : Ø 47 cm x H 24 cm - Ceiling rose : Ø 11,6 cm x H 3,9 cm. Characteristics : White internal surface - Included : crown mirrored standard silver bulb E27 60W.

With the BL9 XL Bestlite presents the largest model of the BL9 pendant lamp with a diameter of 60 cm. The classic and functionalistic design of the known BL series by Robert Dudley Best meets the highest demands in terms of form and function. Due to its dimensions it is perfectly suitable for lighting larger rooms or tables. The simple design of the lamp fits every room and it looks elegant both in the background and as the centre of an ensemble. The simple design of the BL lamps has been adjusted to the requirements of a pendant light for the BL9. It is therefore even more reduced but not any less classic and elegant. The belonging of the BL9 XL to the family of Bauhaus lamps is clearly visible due to the functional and characteristic design. When Robert Dudley Best designed the lamps of the BL series in the 1930s they were revolutionary simple and of unusually clear and functional forms. They are still regarded as examples of classic Bauhaus design. This has been enforced by the British designers close contacts to Dessau, Weimar and Berlin, which were the centres of the Bauhaus movement back then. Even the British premier Winston Churchill had a BL1 lamp standing on his desk in Whitehall and many architects and designers made some great designs under its light. The pendant lamp BL9 XL by Bestlite is also available in further colours.

Gubi presents another model of the famous Robert Dudley Best lamp. The classic and functionalistic design of the BL-series has been passed to a pendant lamp here, fulfilling the highest demands to form and function. The BL9 pendant lamp does perfectly suit in every room and acts either elegant in the background or as direct eye-catcher in the middle of the room. The simple design of the BL lamps has been adapted to the demands of a pendant lamp at the BL9. This means that the design is even more reduced but not less classic and elegant. Because of the functionality and the characteristic design by Robert Dudley Best, it is easy to recognize the similarity of the BL9 to the rest of the lamps-family. When Robert Dudley Best designed the BL series in the 1930es, they were revolutionary simple and had a clear and uncommon functional shape. With it they are still an example for the classic Bauhaus design. This has been reinforced by the tight contact of Robert Dudley Best with Dessau, Weimar and Berlin, the centers of the Bauhaus-lamps movement. Even the twice British Prime Minister Winston Churchill had a BL1 lamp on his desk in Whitehall, and many architects and designers worked huge designs under the BL’s light. The BL9 pendant lamp by Gubi is also available in further colours.
