Rachel Roy is more than passing familiar with designer trends—after all, she’s the woman responsible for many of the season’s most coveted pieces. So when she revealed the color we all need for this winter, we listened!

“Oxblood is the new black,” Roy told us. “It looks amazing in clothing, accessories and especially beauty, and it works on any skin tone.”

So how would she make the hue work for neophytes? “It’s the perfect shade for pairing with neutrals,” Roy explained, “but I would also mix it with brights for a bit of drama.”
