  • Arne Jacobsen Egg Footstool in Basel Fabric
    dwr.com
Form follows function, and nowhere is that more apparent than in a sculpted footstool that anticipates the curves of the human body. Arne Jacobsen designed the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and for its busy lobby, he created the biomorphic Egg (1958). With this design, Jacobsen embraced newthat allowed him to shape single-piece molded forms with fluid curves. At a time when others were experimenting with bent tubular steel, he focused on an upholstered shell, believing a solution existed that would still be true to modern ideals. Indeed, he met that goal. The Egg Footstool sports a comfortable shape that cradles your legs and feet. Its Basel upholstery is carefully sewn onto the frame by hand. Architects Herzog & de Meuron designed this special fabric to play with the light and textures found in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. “Inspired by tweed,” say the duo, “which has the rough homespun look and feel one associates with wool, Basel is durable and informal, yet it has class and style.” Egg is finished with piping made from the highest grade of Sorensen leather, and the black and white bases are perfectly matched to the fabric. This is the authentic Egg Footstool by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Poland. Egg Footstool in Basel Fabric is a.
  • Alexander Girard Girard Color Wheel Ottoman
    dwr.com
After being recruited by none other than Charles Eames to become director of design for the Herman Miller textile division in 1952, Alexander Girard was given the freedom to experiment with vibrant hues and patterns in his work. Girard created more than 300 textiles during his tenure there, which lasted into the 1970s. A testament to his prowess with playing colors off one another, his Color Wheel Ottoman (1967) comes in bold yet playful pinwheel colorways that coordinate with an array of interiors. Girard carefully proportioned it to serve equally well as a footrest, extra seat or coffee table. Its flexibility reflects one of his tenets: “Art is only art when it is synonymous with living.” This is the authentic Girard Color Wheel Ottoman by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A.
  • Normann Copenhagen Sumo Pouf
    shophorne.com
For Normann Copenhagen designer Simon Legald has created a pouf in a class of its own. Sumo’s simple expression makes it easy to spot the details and complexity of the upholstery and stitching, and the materials – wood, textiles and buttons – have been playfully combined. The visual expression is robust and friendly. The inspiration behind Sumo originates from the classic Danish furniture industry, in which special attention is paid to the details and craftsmanship in order to create the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. Simon Legald says; “I enjoy working with techniques which are necessary for the design and instead of hiding them, I like to include them as part of the design. The stitching, upholstery and buttons therefore play an important part in the otherwise simple design. I have also deliberately rounded the square shape slightly to make the expression soft and pleasing to the eye.” Sumo is a multifunctional piece of furniture and can be used as an extension to the sofa, a feature in the bedroom or a stool in the entrance hall.
