  • English Classics Furniture Oak Oval Coffee Table with Yew Banding
    english-classics.net
This country style oval coffee table was recently hand-crafted in England as a Georgian period reproduction. Every aspect of its construction, from the materials used to the techniques employed to refine them, speaks of the absolute highest quality. Such a lovely coffee table would make a fine addition to any living room or office. The classic shape of this oval coffee table is quite elegant, providing extra depth in the center and more space on the tapered ends. Attractive French legs provide sturdy support, enhancing the simple yet refined country style of the piece. Little has changed in this fundamental design over the past few centuries, as it is both useful and beautiful. Measuring 70″ wide and 40″ deep, it provides a great deal of surface area that not only provides a convenient table top for setting various items–a tea or coffee set, for example–but it also displays the wood very beautifully. The oak and yew banding have been richly finished in an elaborate, seven-stage process. Before even the stain was applied to the wood, it was first distressed using iron and stone to impart characteristic "wear” marks onto the oak and yew, making this table fit in easily with antique furniture. After a quality coat of hand-brushed lacquer, several coats of wax were applied for a rich polish that fleshes out the natural beauty of the wood. Furniture paste wax can even be reapplied twice a year to maintain the table’s finish. The resulting contrast between the oak and the yew is quite striking, setting this piece apart as a truly fine oval coffee table.

  • Daisy Coffee Table By Manulution
    2modern.com
The inspiration for this product was found in nature and turned into an abstract form through design. Daisy is an attempt in re-birth of handcrafts and an awakening of interest in modern, hand-made products. It is not a coincidence that this piece was designed for Rukotvorine (Manulution's parent company), which in Bosnia symbolizes the tradition of woodcarving and local heirloom furniture. A beautiful, flower shaped table top features hand-carved edges and hand-carved flowers. The Daisy Coffee Table is made in sustainably harvested wood and finished using eco-friendly Danish oil. This table is a part of the Daisy Collection, which also includes: Daisy Chair , Daisy Dining Table and Daisy Side Table. Manulution buys walnut and cherry logs from private orchards throughout Bosnia. These are trunks of old trees, which are cut when their productive life of fruit bearing is over and need to be replaced by new ones. They are bought directly from villagers, often in very small quantities, whenever it is offered. Other hardwoods (i.e. maple, oak, elm, and ash) are sourced from public forestry companies, the management of which has vastly improved in recent years. The forest certification process has started and several forests are FSC certified. There is also concrete evidence that forests are exploited sustainably. A recent forestry inventory (financed and supported by the World Bank) has shown that Bosnia's forest volume has increased significantly since the last inventory was conducted in 1960s. In fact, the study indicated that Bosnia, ostensibly, has more trees per capita than any country in Europe or Central Asia.

  • Herman Miller® Noguchi Coffee Table
    hivemodern.com
Design Isamu Noguchi, 1948. Solid wood base, 3/4" plate-glass top. Made by Herman Miller® "Everything is sculpture, any material, any idea without hindrance born into space, I consider sculpture." -Isamu Noguchi. The Noguchi coffee table joins a curved, solid wood base with a freeform glass top. The ethereal result does not diminish the practical design: a sturdy and durable table. This balance of sculptural form and everyday function has made the Noguchi table an understated and beautiful element in homes and offices since its introduction in 1948. Unwilling and unable to be pigeonholed, Noguchi created sculptures using any medium he could get his hands on: stone, metal, wood, clay, bone, paper, or a mixture of any or all--carving, casting, cutting, pounding, chiseling, or dynamiting away as each form took shape. "To limit yourself to a particular style may make you an expert of that particular viewpoint or school, but I do not wish to belong to any school," he said. "I am always learning, always discovering." Noguchi believed the sculptor's task was to shape space, to give it order and meaning, and that art should "disappear," or be as one with its surroundings. His relationship with Herman Miller® came about when one of his designs was used to illustrate an article written by George Nelson called "How to Make a Table." It became his famous "coffee table," and it's as appealing today as it was then. For someone who was told by his first art teacher at age 15 that he'd "never be a sculptor," he left an amazing legacy. To assure authenticity, the signature of Isamu Noguchi discreetly appears on the edge of the top and on a medallion on the underside of the base; under the medallion, his initials are stamped into the base. Noguchi's coffee table consists of three pieces. A freeform, 3/4" plate-glass top resting on two curved, solid wood legs that interlock to form a tripod for self-stabilizing support. The solid wood base of the table is available in Noguchi black, walnut, natural cherry, and white ash. The ash base is finished with a process that arrests the wood in its natural, "freshly cut" state. The resulting color is a creamy white that will not turn yellow or golden over time. The table with white ash base is a beautiful complement to the Eames lounge chair and ottoman with white ash veneer and pearl MCL Leather. 50" W | 36" d | 15.75" h.

Caster Table by Commonhouse Furniture. A cocktail table with big wheels to roll out of the way when you want to play and slim pockets for magazines and remotes in your day to day. Materials: Solid wood species walnut, cherry, maple, ebonized oak, or white oak. Natural low sheen lacquer, water resistant finish. Aluminum swivel casters with breaks. Dimensions: 48W x 24D x 13H" 8"casters. The word common, as used by my grandmother, has an entirely different meaning from what is found in the dictionary. She uses the word to describe a person whose character is the perfect balance of simplicity, familiarity, and goodness. I set out to translate the idea of "common” into modern furniture. What I arrived at is an elegant collection of pieces that represent those three ideals through form, construction, and material. Simple is purposeful forms that let the materials, structure, and joinery serve as the decorative elements. Familiar is utilizing the materials and construction methods of traditional furniture in an updated aesthetic. Good is never having to buy the same thing twice.
  • DwellStudio Avedon Nesting Coffee Tables
    dwellstudio.com
In the thirties, the boldly minimalist Parsons table was a radical retort to the ornate design of a prior age. Wea™ve taken this modernist icon, changed the design to 2 slabs instead of 4 legs and added textural maximalism by covering it in shagreen and trimming it in warm Belgian grey wood, without sacrificing its utter simplicity. Such a stripped-down form requires absolute perfection in both material and construction; there's nowhere for the slightest flaw to hide, but this only adds a profound elegance. There's remarkable functionality in this nesting tablea"use the smaller pieces as stools, for example, or additional surfaces for a cocktail party. But it also offers an opportunity to play with asymmetry by arranging the three pieces in an abstract composition, a style that was emerging alongside the Parsons itself. Ivory Shagreen/Belgian Grey.
