  • Harry Bertoia Bertoia Diamond Lounge Chair with Seat Pad
    SOLD OUT: More info
With his iconic seating collection, Harry Bertoia transformed industrial wire rods into a new furniture form. The events that made this work possible began a decade earlier at Cranbrook Academy of Art when Bertoia met Florence Knoll (then Florence Schust). Years later, the Italian-born designer was invited to work for Florence and her husband Hans Knoll. Bertoia was given the freedom to work on whatever suited him, without being held to a strict design agenda, and the result of this arrangement was the Bertoia Seating Collection (1952). Featuring a delicate filigreed appearance that’s supremely strong, these airy seats are sculpted out of steel rods. In his art, Bertoia experimented with open forms and metal work, and these chairs were an extension of that work. “If you look at the chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture,” said Bertoia. “Space passes through them.” After designing his seating collection, Bertoia returned to focusing mostly on sculpture. This is the authentic Bertoia Diamond Lounge Chair produced by Knoll. The Knoll logo is stamped into its base. Chair made in Italy; seat pad made in U.S.A. The White frame can be used outdoors with limited exposure to the elements. The Chrome frame is not for outdoor use. Seat pad is secured to chair with metal snaps.

  • Artek - Stool 60
    SOLD OUT: More info
The stackable stool 60 was designed by Alvar Aalto in the year 1933 and initially produced by O.y. Huonekalu – ja Rakennustyötehdas. After founding Artek in the year 1935 the stool was introduced in the standard assortment of Artek In the 1940es this three-legged stool became a famous best-seller. The renowned design emerged for the Viipuri library and went arround the world. The minimalistic and functional design was a revolution in its origin. Instead of the usual steel, the architect and designer Alvar Aalto used birch wood, a material that was bulky available in Finland. This is why the unusual stool was also affordable for poorer families. And to pursue tradition, Artek still manufactures the stool 60 with bended, massive birch veneer. By means of a bend-technique that Aalto invented, the wood is bended; legs and seat are glued like this, building an optical unity. The stool has a 39.5 cm height and its seat has a 43 cm diameter. The stool is available in several versions: Bright, black or white lacquered. Furthermore with a black linoleum or white laminate seat, as well as cloth or leather upholstered. In the event of the 80th anniversary of the 60 Stool, Artek presented some special editions of it with coloured seats, as well as limited editions with different patterns of different artists.
  • Arne Jacobsen Swan Sofa in Fabric
    SOLD OUT: More info
Before the Swan Sofa (1958), Arne Jacobsen’s architecture and designs were shaped by an assumption of’ natural ways of resisting. In other words, he could make them go only so far in becoming the structures he desired. With new technologies, however, the old rules no longer applied, and he was able to shape fluid curves and single-piece molded shells. The Swan Sofa is now made from polyurethane foam, but at the time, Jacobsen used Styropore® to create its continuous shape. Designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, for which Jacobsen was the architect. A single upholsterer hand-sews the fabric onto the frame of Swan. Original design and licensed manufacture by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Poland.
