Herman Miller® Nelson™ Swag Leg Desk
Design George Nelson™, 1958. Walnut, laminate top, plastic drawers, chromed steel tubing. Made by Herman Miller® "Total design is nothing more or less than a process of relating everything to everything." -George Nelson. The Swag leg group from George Nelson is back! Each piece displays the distinctively slender and majestic metal legs that give the "swag" appearance to the group. The beauty and unique design of each piece combined with the legendary quality from Herman Miller makes the Swag leg group a pleasant addition. Herman Miller founder D.J. DePree saw an article in a 1945 Life magazine featuring George Nelson's Storagewall unit, which was causing a sensation in the furniture industry. He was so impressed that he paid a visit to Nelson in New York and convinced him to be his director of design, which spurred Nelson to found his design firm, George Nelson & Associates. The warm personal and professional relationship between Nelson and DePree yielded a stunning range of products, from the playful Marshmallow Sofa to the first L-shaped desk, a precursor of today's workstation. The desk is highlighted by solid walnut sides, back and strecher with a white laminate top. Features four hardwood dividers (2 orange, 1 spa blue, and 1 chartreuse), chrome-finished steel-tube legs, adjustable glides and a grommet for cable management. Shipped knocked down. 39" w | 28.5" d | 34.5" h.

herman miller Nelson Swag Leg Desk
The classic Nelson swag leg desk has the look, scale, and function just right for today, 50 years after George Nelson designed them. The size of the desk is perfect for a laptop and ipod dock and makes efficient use of space in your home or office. The desk is has solid walnut sides, back and stretcher with a white laminate top. A grommet for cable management has been added to the back of the desk. Colorful cubbyholes at the back keep materials organized and at hand, and one fits a laptop computer. Two molded plastic drawers store small items. Shipped knocked down. George Nelson began with the legs, insisting that they be made of metal, machine formed, and prefinished. And beautiful. He wanted that graceful curve. He also wanted them to be easy for the consumer to assemble, so the desk and tables could be shipped knocked down to save on costs. This series of furniture is named for the process that creates the distinctive legs. George Nelson started with this idea: "Wouldn't it be beautiful to have some kind of sculptured leg on a piece of furniture?" How could that be done without wood and hand-carving tools? Using pressure to taper and curve a metal tube--the process called swaging--proved to be the best way to produce the legs. Inserting a screw in the legs and rotating them in opposite directions makes quick work of assembly--and makes a strong joint too. Dimensions: 39"w | 28.5"d | 34.5"h.
