Ugh finally! I was having such trouble making an outfit for the chariot. No matter, it's complete now. And I can't wait to watch the Hunger Games now that it's on dvd.
I'm a bit nervous about Athena has in mind for the parade. The prep team styles my hair and adds some makeup to my face. Then Athena enters. I'm first placed in a pair of black leggings, over which a sparkling bodysuit lined with pink crystals is added. She then attaches a black cape, which is outfitted with curious pink flashes that move across it, resembling lightning. I step into a silver pair of high heels, and as a final touch, she places silver cuffs around my wrists, and adds a silver headpeice that looks as if it's made of lightning. As I look at myself in the mirror, I feel as though the reflection staring back is not of me, but of some powerful otherworldly being. I wonder what my family will think when they see me on tv back home.
I'm then lead to the area where the horses and chariots await. Darius is there by our chariot, and smiles at me when I approach.
"Don't you look brilliant," he says.
I feel my cheeks grow hot and desperately hope no one notices. If Darius does, he pretends not to.
"You'll do great", he assures me as Eddie is led to the chariot. He's clad in black leggings with the same moving bolts as my cape. I notice he's shirtless, and it's impossible to miss his nicely toned abs. No doubt his stylist has noticed and has decided to play the cards in a way that will guarantee him sponsors. Good looking tributes always get sponsors. People will love Eddie from the get-go, with his well built body and charming smile. No doubt capitol girls will swoon over him as soon as they spot him in the chariot. But what about me?How can I hold a candle to Eddie?
Darius helps me into the chariot as Eddie also mounts.
"Remember", Darius says, "smile, wave, make sure they love you."
We nod, and I am beyond nervous. Making people love me has never been my strong suit. The horses lead us into place, between the district 4 and district 6 chariots. And then, we start to move. Before I can gather my wits, I'm being blinded by the flashing lights of the the city. For a moment I'm too stunned to do anything, but as Eddie begins waving to the crowd, I'm reminded of what I must do, and I follow his lead. I hope nobody notices how forced my smile is. I wave and wave, trying my best to seem...seem...I'm not sure. Something other than the quiet, surely girl I am. By the time we reach the end of the parade, my face is sore from smiling so long.
"You did amazing", Athena says as Darius helps me out of the chariot. I'm actually grateful for the help. In such high heels, unaided I may have fallen and broken something. Later, we gather in our floor on the training center to watch the re-cap. As I re watch the parade, I make a note to pay attention to the rest of the tributes. They're shown in order of District number, so first I see the District 1 tributes. I can tell they're loving this. As careers, this is what they live for. They have huge smiles plastered on their face and are waving and blowing kisses to an almost ridiculous extent.
Then comes District 2. I'm immediately drawn to the boy tribute. He's huge, built muscular, and like Eddie, void of a shirt. His face has a stony expression on it. He's not smiling, he looks absolutely brutal. Occasionally, his lips curl in a satisfied sneer, which only adds to his intimidating appearance. I can already tell he is going to be a formidable enemy.
The rest of the parade passed by. The only other tributes that stand out in my mind are the ones from District 4. The boy looks younger than me, and is smiling and waving, an expression similar to the one Eddie wore in the chariot. The girl is looking around, untrusting, eyes scanning everything. I doubt that will fare well with the sponsors.
I'm relieved when Eddie and I appear on the screen. I've actually managed to look rather confident, and perhaps even sexy. We receive another round of congratulations from out team, and then I'm relieved to be able to retire to bed. Despite the hefty amount of stress weighing on my mind, I've had a long, tiring day, and drift off to sleep almost instantly.
